Everything works normally except the key won't turn back right?
I might have to do some investigating and maybe tell you some steps to take.

Don't cut any wires to disable anything, that is insane.
If you can make it for a few days I'll do some checking and see if we can get to the heart of this matter.

Re: HELP!! CTS 2003 key stuck in ignition

trust ewill....he is usually right about these kinds of things....ive seen his posts in the past

and will, when i was lookin at the key release, the one i looked at was pointing at the smaller hole closer to the key..it is shown in your pic..obviously i was looking at it wrong or it was labeled wrong...i went out and looked at mine and i see exactly what you were pointing out.
maybe one is to turn back the key and the other pops out the lock cylinder?

Re: HELP!! CTS 2003 key stuck in ignition

mike, the small hole under the lock cylinder is to release the cylinder from the housing, you were correct.
I thought the key release was close to that hole but I was off on what I remembered. That is why I went to a car and took that picture.
I keep forgetting it is there actually but it does work, I tested it on that very car, although that one was working so I had to force it to stick by putting the car in gear.

Cutie, I love to help when I can, I'll see you ladies through this one...
(I am making an assumption that a guy would not give himself a monaker like yours... sorry if I am mistaken)

Re: HELP!! CTS 2003 key stuck in ignition

Well thanks to EWILL Miss FoxXxy did not have to spend the night with the keys left in her. I finally figured out how to get to the release button thanks to your pics and helpful directions...smooooooches. In response to your comment EWILL....YES! I am a female...lol.

So know that we've found a temporary fix...I'm looking forward to a permanent one...because my baby is tooo preety to be sitting in Self Park..she deserves to be valet...lol.

Any and all comments and advice is welcomed. You guys are AWESOME...especially you EWILL.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Re: HELP!! CTS 2003 key stuck in ignition

Mine did this to me when I first got it. My fiance would call me all distraught about not getting the keys out. I figured out what my problem was.

When putting it into Park. I have to hear it "click" when in park, meaning that I didn't have my shifter all the way in. So this is what I do.

-Hold foot on brake
-Push shifter forward
-Hear/Feel click in park
-Pull keys out

Re: HELP!! CTS 2003 key stuck in ignition

It COULD be a shifter adjustment.
Being too lazy to re-read everything, has any work been done on this car lately?

I just got her in March...since then the only thing that I've had done tire rotation, oil change, and when I first got it they had to replace to the thermostat....that's it.

Re: HELP!! CTS 2003 key stuck in ignition

If you can send PM's send the last 8 digits of the VIN.
I'd like to look at the warranty history and see if this could be related to anything in the car's previous life.

If you feel comfortable just post it here.
I just need the end part... should start with 30......
