Sometimes when heavy people are in my car, I get that light. I have to disconnect the yellow connectors under the seat and reconnect them ( with power off). That resets my light problem. |

The diagnostics run continuously and the second the problem is gone the light will go off and the code will go to history status.
What did you replace?
If you replaced the PPS (passenger presence system.. which is the cushion/sensor/and module) then it must be recalibrated before the codes will clear. That does require a scan tool.
If it was the SDM (system module) then you have to use a scan tool also.
If it was a harness or bag, then either something is not connected properly or there is another code.

It is a separate module and the SDM will set a code to tell you to check it, but the procedure for checking PPS codes is really complicated even with the factory scan tool.
I don't use any other scanners so I am not aware of their capabilities.
Perhaps someone else could shed some light.
Jimmy, did taking that piece off require a reset?
What did they say? |

For the benefit of others; my mom has a new maxima, and I pulled the a pillar interior trim off to run a wire down for the parrot kit I installed. I saw the curtain airbag in there, and was very careful not to mess with it.
still, when I turned the car back on, I got an airbag warning light. Unplugging the battery did not reset it.
So my mom took the car to the dealer, they plugged their diagnostic tool in, pressed a few buttons, and it was reset. That was it. They didnt ask anything, my mom did not volunteer anything. She was in and out.
A couple guys on the Maxima forums said they had to do the same thing when they pulled that piece off. I guess just removing the pillar trips the airbag light and it has to be reset with the scanner. |

Electrical & Lights: The front and rear light bulbs are prone to premature failure. Our technicians tell us that the front bulbs can be very difficult to replace. Miscellaneous The passenger seat sensor may fail causing the SRS (air bag) light to illuminate.
Suspension & Steering The steering wheel position sensor may fail causing the Service Stability message to be displayed.
Heating & Air Conditioning Extended life coolant may become contaminated and require cooling system service before the recommended 100,000 miles.
My airbag light also came on,I just replaced the rack and pinion and the mechanic said the light came on as soon as they put the new one on. I'm not sure if replacing that caused the issue, but they're gonna fix it for free they said. Good luck on this one |

If the column is rotated or the gear is not centered while the gear is off, the first time the wheels are turned the SIR coil in the column may break.
It contains a "clockspring" type coil conductor and it must be centered with the wheels straight ahead otherwise it will overtravel and snap in two.
I have seen it happen, particularly an inexperienced tech. |
