Auto shift knob rattle...

Remove this ad
My shift knob is rattling like a feaking snake and it's driving me nuts. I looked in the FAQ only to find a removale process for the 6-speed. Anyone know how to remove the knob and tighten it up??

Thanks,
Aaron

Re: Auto shift knob rattle...

The little chrome piece slides down and reveals a hidden number 8 torx screw. I've tighten it once, then a few weeks later it was back to rattling again. So when my car was in the shop, I asked them to put some locktight on it. It has been 2 months now, and it's still solid.

The chrome piece is on there pretty good, so make sure that your hands are dry. Better yet, have rubber gloves on when pushing it down.

So the next time your car goes into the shop for oil change or what not, ask them to put locktight onto the set screw for the shifter. Or take it off yourself, go down to a local shop and ask them for a little dab of locktight and do it yourself.

I had the same problem but mine hasn't loosened again yet. You can also use clear fingernail polish or varnish as a substitute for loctite on a screw as small as the one for the shifter.

So that's the trick? I was going to shove a folded business card sliver up in there and wedge it.

Cool. I've got loc-tite so that shouldn't be a problem I just didn't know how to get the darn thing off! Thanks guys!

Been there, done that, until I found out how to tighten it! That rattle is annoying.
