Just got "LOW OIL PRESSURE..Stop Engine" on DIC

Was about 2 blocks from my house and got this error.... OMG.... Anyone know what would cause this???? Only thing I know that just happened on the way home was I drove through a lot and I mean A LOT of water.. only about 3 inches deep... and the speed was about 20mph or so.. don't think I would have sucked any up or anything .. and if so, I don't think it would give me an Oil Pressure error.. then again, what do I know..

Since I was turning on my street, I came straight home and parked it.. After sittinga while, I checked the oil and it is fine and there is no water in it... I also checked to see if it threw any codes but there are none... the check engine light did not come on. Just the oil light and what flashed on the DIC...

    Any thoughts or ideas?

Was it a one time thing or is it on constant now? It sounds like the oil pump may be malfunctioning.

Either that, or the oil pressure sensor's connections got wet from the splash of water. I've had this problem in an 04 Grand Prix, and it turned up being the oil pressure sensor. Pretty cheap item, around $20 to $30.

I haven't looked to see where this sensor exact location is on our cars. But normally it's right above the oil pan.

The oil pressure sensor is located at the front lower base of the engine block, so it could be very posible that water got in the connection.

i can tell you that if the oil pressure sensor is not connected you will NOT get a error message... when my belt broke a few weeks ago it snapped the wire off and broke the clip on the sensor, i have a new one ready to go in just havent had the chance.
so i dont think water on the connection would cause this error but i could be wrong, try to disconnect it and fire up the car. but be carefull it is just plastic it could easily break

Might be a coincidence. First thing to check is the oil level. Pull the dipstick on level ground, and make sure it's OK. If it's low enough, you will get the warning message.

Re: Just got "LOW OIL PRESSURE..Stop Engine" on DIC

Well after letting it dry out for the weekend, I checked the oil level and it was maybe a qt low.. Worries me though since I did not do my last oil change since it was in the shop and they changed the valve cover gaskets and oil pan gasket.... I just added a little bit and drove it some yesterday and the warning never came back on.. not sure if it was due to it being a little low on oil or being wet from driving through deep water..

I am guessing it was water related since the repair work was done about 3 months ago...

I am going to go to the parts store today and get my ususal oil changing stuff and change it myself.. the oil life is at 28% so it is almost due anyway...

    Thanks for the replies...
