Cool Convert High Beams to DRL's

Remove this ad
History:
Original when I switched to HID's I wanted to have my high beams and fog lights match (6000k) So I tried using High output LED's, the color matched great but the actual light output sucked even though they claimed to be a replacement option.

Current:
I replaced the Fog Lights with a set of HID's and they look great, but I had two set of LED's I couldn't use. So I got the idea, since my standard HID's and Fog Light's give me all the lighting I need Why not convert the high beams and use them as DRL's.

With a second DRL module and some wiring and Presto............ HID/LED DRL's, with the lower light output no worries about blinding anyone and they look great...........

Re: Convert High Beams to DRL's

So now, what lamps do you have in the brights? Did you use the wire from the DRL's? If so, do they blink when you turn on the signals/emerg flashers?

Re: Convert High Beams to DRL's

The high beams have been swapped out for High Out-put LED's which are wired separately to a second LM458 DRL Module. The new module (water proofed) has been placed and wired to the fuse box. The DRL input is now running to the new module (left a connector in line so that I can use Both New lights and old yellow DRL's if I want to). Since the new High/DRL's are on a separate circuit they aren't effected by any of the working flashers or blinkers, and I have open relay's to add other light options if I get an itch.

Re: Convert High Beams to DRL's

Are you telling me that you can run the high beams, low beams and foglights all at the same time... If so I would like a picture this sounds cool!

Re: Convert High Beams to DRL's

The Yellow DRL's have been rewired to the High Beams which are high out-up HID LED's (doesn't blind on-coming traffic)with the use of a second DRL module. I don't have the need for high beams because the output from both HID fog's and head lights give off more light then they did anyway (mine's just a city car).
Like the BMW my lights /DRL only run during the day and auto shut off when the headlights come on, I haven't change any of the functionality of the DRL's just using a different light in a different location.
Plus I still have the option to switch the old yellow DRL's on and use with the converted LED/DRL -highs.

Re: Convert High Beams to DRL's

Yeah, I disabled my high beams so i could wrap electrical tape around my bulbs (so the headlight looks black from the reflection).

Still want night pics though.. -_-

Re: Convert High Beams to DRL's

Hey sorry to be reviving an old thread but i woulda just made a new one other wise.
Anyways i just got my car a little while back and was curious about setting up LEDs and different combinations of head lights but i havent the slightest clue about all this modding and wiring. Would any one be so kind as to let post some links where i can get started researching this or could some give me some info on how to do something similar to this. Thanks.
