Is the 2004 Luxury Sport CTS guaranteed to have the limited slip diff?

Check your build codes (on the spare tire cover); if you have an RPO code of "G80", then you have limited slip.

LSD was not offered in the 2004 model year.

Ok thanks. That's good info to know that not all 04 lux sports have posi. Other threads on this forum didn't seem to be conclusive about it. I found an 04 lux sport I am thinking of buying but am hoping it has it. Sounds like I need to ask the seller to check that out for me. This car is a fair driving distance away so its hard to look up the G80 code myself.

Incorrect. Mine has an LSD. It is a VERY late 04 though.....

Well, so I asked the seller and he said he does not find on the build report anywhere that says it is a limited slip but he said his mechanic told him that since it had 3.42 gear ratio it was the limited slip. I don't believe it, I thought all 3.6 auto tranny's had 3.42 as stock anyway.

Ask the seller to look under the spare tire cover and see if the G80 code is there.

You are correct sir. All 3.6 came with 3.42. Only the 3.2L with the 5speed manual Getrag came with 3.73 rear end...and it wasn't posi-traction, either. The one I drove would spin a single tire until you needed a new one.

The new 2008's+ have been offering different ratios tho. I 'think' 3.23, 3.43, and 3.73 are all available now...

Thanks for the replies everyone...The seller told me he checked and it does not have the G80 limited slip. He said that he checked with GM and the limited slip is only available on the V. It seems that he does not know what he is talking about. He thinks with traction control and stabilitrak it should handle fine... I am not sure I like that answer.

Either I got to buy this car and convert it to limited slip if its worth the effort...or I need to look for another one. Even though I have an 06 GTO for when I need to do spirited driving, I would prefer the CTS to be a little on the capable side if possible. The V is not an option because the wife said she needs this one to be an auto.

If you're out there spinning the rear wheels, with the resulting wheel hop, you're going to be blowing the rear end housing anyway.

I have an '07 with the 18" wheel performance package; it DOES have LSD.

Gee, exactly my question today. Search was my friend. Now a second question. If my car doesn't have LSD, does anyone know if it can be added to existing differential? (I know I can buy a replacement dif. and bolt it in but I'm just wanting to add the clutches etc?)
