Re: Which is better

Yea but you guys are in the 04 & 05 they need Synthetic Motor Oil, am talking bout the 03`s. All the 03 OWNER'S MANUAL say . . .What Kind of Engine Oil to Use
Oils recommended for your vehicle can be identified by
looking for the starburst symbol.
This symbol indicates that the oil has been certified by
the American Petroleum Institute (API). Do not use any
oil which does not carry this starburst symbol.
I`m not sure what ya`ll manual say for the 04`s and up

Re: Which is better

then allow me to be a bit clearer. i've used mobil 1 in ALL of my vehicles including my '79 coupe. you can go ahead and save a few bucks using cheaper oil, your engine won't blow. i didn't have to read my manual to know to use mobil 1, cuz i was gonna put it in regardless. and i'm 100% positive that an '04 would be fine with any (proper weight) motor oil.

Re: Which is better

I use Castrol GTX with Lucas Oil additive.

The GTX is one o fhte best non-synthetic, but for the money MOBIL1 is by far the best synthetic out there in it's "class" if you will.

Royal Purple being the best of the high-end in their "class" of Full synthetic motor oils.

Re: Which is better

There's not a better oil than the other.. They all have there goods and there bads! If you wanna do good to your car, follow your owners manual.

For example, in my 05, it is required to use any synthetic with the gm4718m spec only. Why? because if I want to follow the Oil Life Monitor, I have to use a gm4718m spec synthetic oil only and for other reasons too like heat inside the engine etc.. If I wanna go through 3k or 4k miles oil change interval, I could use a dino 5w30.

I don't want to change my oil every 3 or 5k miles because I do approx 700-1000 miles per week so I follow the owners manual and the OLM. When its telling me change oil soon, I change my oil. I've been doing used oil analysis at each oil change and right now, the olm is very accurate + marging. The only way to make sure which one is better for YOUR engine, is doing an oil analysis at your OCI. Maybe you'll put the same oil as mine, but maybe your engine is reved more than mine, more wear etc so it doesn't mean that at 8k miles on the oil, you'll have the same properties, you know.

Its your car and its yourself... if your the kind of person that doesn't sleep at night because you're not sure if you did the right thing then follow hte owners manual.

because it says so in the gm bible!

call gm customer services and maybe you'll have your answer..

If I were you, I would stop worrying about this and just follow the owners manual.

Maybe because mobil 1 was the first to approve the gm4718m specs and they wanted to do a little marketing shot.. simple as that maybe?!

is it really that serious? a difference of maybe $15 per oil change. who cares what the cap says? put what you wanna put in it (as long as its the proper weight). do you SERIOUSLY think that if someone didn't run mobil 1 in a car that said mobil 1 on the oil cap; that the engine would blow? i guess if they were to have some major, MAJOR engine problem that required cadillac to go thru the whole process of finding out what oil you use (which is HIGHLY unlikely), then they might have a problem. if you're in an '03 you're probably out of warranty so its irrelevant.
