Stock headunit w/ amp &subs.

Well i just got off the phone with a local car audio installer and he made me sound like a idiot so i figure id come here with my problem.

I was looking to keep my stock head unit and hook up 2 900watt amps running to 2 12" subs(that i already own), so then this guy tells me everything is going to sound like "sh*t" and that i should change the head unit, (But i really like the customizable features of the stock unit.) So anyway he gets over that then asks me to hold so he could get me a price on the install, then when he comes back on the phone he tells me it'll be $2500 for the install i then told him to go screw himself and hung up.

I was just wondering if there is something im missing, or is it just a shop tryin to rip me off? Anyone else run a system with the stock head unit, any feedback on this? And is there anything else i should concider going about this?

hes tryin 2 rip you off for not buyin a deck from him.
the install is easy, you need a rca pre out adaptor and tap into the signal out either by the factory sub or reer speakers. i was looking into doing this for my cts, but i decided to sell my system and just keep it stock so i still have a trunk.

Re: Stock headunit w/ amp &subs.

Go into the CTS-V forums and search "Subwoofer Replacement" then read, read, read. There have been many people that added subs to the factory system. I just finished putting a 10" sub with aftermarket amp into my car. If you have any questions as to how to do it send me a pm and I'll be glad to help.

Re: Stock headunit w/ amp &subs.

Do a search...there is alot of info on here. Hes raping you on price though.....If you dont do a cleansweep or RF 360, its extremely easy to add your system. I would use one of the above devices for better sound, but thats me and when you read thru those above mentioned searches, you will see why I say that

Goodluck

Re: Stock headunit w/ amp &subs.

Just to let you know, the input wires that are on the factory amp are at a set level. Meaning that they come from the factory radio, your navi and the same volume all the time. Believe it or not, but the volume, EQ and whatever else is done in the factory amp. So if you tap into those wires, you will have no volume control.

I have yet to do something like this, and I doubt that I would too. Since I have the base radio and had all ready modified it to take a double din aftermarket radio.
