2008 Keyless Fob

Remove this ad
Curious,

Would an 2008 keyfob work with an 06 CTS?

I can't stand the Pontiac crap style fob and want to see if I could have it programmed.

I know it's a "smartkey", but would I be able to have it programmed to use the keyless portion of the fob?

Thanks

Re: 2008 Keyless Fob

Ask parts dept to compare your new fob number with your vehicle. Typically, you cannot make a Caddy key fob work on a chevy, etc. Also, keep in mind that some people feel the newer GM fobs are having a problem with cracking around the end where the key ring attaches.

Re: 2008 Keyless Fob

You can do it, but it is not going to be easy. You have to reprogram the FOB, you are going to have to find where to reprogram it, and you will probably run in to some other problems. After all that, you will probably wish that you just bought an alarm that can do the exact same stuff (no key engine start, car knows when your near and unlocks/lock doors/ignition disabled). Also, you will have programable buttons that with a good alarm installer, you can hook to pretty much anything, no matter how random and unnecessary it is. Some of the new alarms for cars are very cool looking too if looks are a priority for you.

Re: 2008 Keyless Fob

I actually don't like the new fob very much. Its WAY too big. Looks cool, but its huge. Had a 08 rental and I felt like just the fob took up my whole pocket.

Re: 2008 Keyless Fob

The official word so far is, No.

Had the dealer try and program the 2008 keyfob and it wouldn't program. Me thinks I'm going to take apart my current fob and see if I can swap the internals into the newer fob.
