    MPG (search function?)

    Hi,
Considering a 2003 CTS and was wondering what the mpg is like in real life.

EPA says 16/24, but my neighbor says he gets 32 hwy. (which is most every day for him) That's a big diff.

We like the car a lot, but would like to see high 20's for hwy mpg.

I looked for a search function but don't see a tab for that.

Also would like to know how it is in the snow.

    Thanks

High 20's is doable, assuming you have the auto. The gearing was more aggressive with the manual trans.

The CTS will be fine in the winter with a set of good snow tires. Hills will give it trouble tho, especially since it doesnt have an lsd. Really, it will get anywhere a fwd can. It may be a little harder starting off, but once going you have much more control, especially in a slide.

the 03 3.2L is rated for 26mpg hwy, i get over that, probably 28-30 im light on the gas. also i think city its rated for 18-20mpg. go for ti, best car i have ever driven.

With premium gas and a tail wind, I get 32. I typically use mid-grade. combination of city/Hwy is about 24. I carry about 100lbs of books for work so I get good traction in snow with all season tires. The car has a 2nd gear start feature that helps. BTW, you can only go as fast as the car in front of you when it's snowing.

im getting around 23-24 and i drive fairly aggresivelly. If I hypermile you can get alot. I was averaging 45

I've noticed with an auto you can put the car in neutral and coast downhill and alot farther. Not sure how good it is for the tranny though.

Obviously with a manual its easier on the tranny just by pushing in the clutch.

The CTS actually does have an LSD.

You will see high 20's for highway mpg.

It's not that great in the snow because of the light weight of the rear end, but it's no worse than the rest.

i dont think it did in 03.....mines a 03 lux sport

also if you put bigger wheels on you will get more mpg hwy but less city, also put less miles on your car. but to do so for the reason of mileage on the car i believe is illegal....

Not entirely. Its actually the tire diameter that would affect the amount of miles put on the car, not the wheel size. The overall diameter would have to be larger, not just the tire.

and its not illegal... you can have the speedometer reflashed for the larger diameter tires, or get a speedometer tooth gear that matches your tire size properly.

    Re: MPG (search function?)

I have an 03 CTS with the 3.2l. Most of my driving is suburban commuting to and from work (24 miles each way) which is a mix of moderate to heavy traffic on surface streets and partly expressway. My average MPG fluctuates between 22.5 to 23.5. On long trips on the highway my average is 26-27 mpg at speeds of around 75-80 mph.
