Oh yea, it's a 2004 with the sport package.

Xoco, do you like how these look? Did you get black for the custom color part?

Re: Drilled and Slotted Rotor Recommendations?

Yes, I got drilled and slotted painted black. You can check my album for a pic of them. Just email the guys what your CTS is and what you want. They usually offer pads to go with it at a great price bundled together.

Re: Drilled and Slotted Rotor Recommendations?

I've read on other forums that the R1 rotors rusted very quickly, even the premium ones. Some people responded saying that all rotors will do that. Has anyone here had any problems?

Also, do I need "stainless steal lines"?

Re: Drilled and Slotted Rotor Recommendations?

sterling:
no, you do not need stainless steel lines.
originally the braided stainless steel brake fluid lines were used in "extreme" use environments like race cars and the like where brake pressures can get insane.

nowadays they are mostly used for looks.

onto rusting:
no matter what coating is put on a brake it will rust (unless the thing is made out of ceramic, but thats a couple thousand a rotor so we won't get into that)
the surface that is touched by the pad will soon be scrubbed clean of any coating as the brakes do their jobs of creating friction between two surfaces and slowing you down in the process.
so that surface will always be bare metal and will always rust.

what you can do is coat the "hat" and non friction areas with either high temp engine paint or with zinc/cadmium coating (most popular)
this will prevent or slow down rust in the non friction areas.

and if you don't like the rust you see on your rotors in the morning or after a rain there is a simple procedure to clean them up:
Go for a short drive and brake.

yep, thats right. the same thing that scrubs any coating off the disc will also scrub the rust right off and leave a shiny surface for to look at... until it rusts again.

you often see this at car shows with "trailer queen" cars. when they push the car off the truck or whatever there will be a guy inside applying the brakes as the other guys push the car off. this is to "shine" the discs so they look better for the show.

now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
