| | Cadillac Owners Member Cadillac(s): Cadillac | | | | Aisin MT Problems I'm having problems with my 2005 CTS Aisin manual transmission. In higher gears when I accelerate, the engine overrevs and then drops back to where it should be. I took it into the dealer and he said everything was OK. Now I'm getting some grinding in 1st gear occasionally, and it's starting to over rev in 3rd gear as well when I accelerate. The car only has 30K miles and my wife drives it most of the time, and mostly around town. In addition, the cruise controls drops out, probably because the engine over-revs trying to speed up.
I'ts still under warranty and I'm taking it into the dealer again tomorrow.
Any suggestions?
Thanks |

It's the only thing in the system that can slip. The drivetrain from the engine to the rear wheels is pretty much locked in place by gears and shafts, other than the clutch. |

is the clutch under warranty or no? | Yes, thankfully we got an extended warranty, or maybe it's still under the original warranty. We are in the flatlands of OH, and now in cruise control, when we go over an overpass, the cruise drops out probably because the engine revs up too much. |

Yes, I'm an engineer and agree with you and have driven MT for always. I told the local dealer that the clutch was slipping but was told all was well a few months ago. Tomorrow we'll find out. |

Thanks. |

Have 43k miles on my '07 and no clutch troubles yet.
Anybody else have their clutch replaced and at what mileage? |

is the clutch under warranty or no? | Yes, the dealer says it's the clutch. The problem started in the higher gears and then became apparent in the lower gears. Try stomping on the gas at about 65 or so in 6th gear and see if the RPMs go up dramatically. It strted there and eventually became even apparent in 2nd gear. The repairs are being done under warranty. I had a 4-year original warranty and we are still in that period. I also have an extended warranty but don't know if it would be covered. |

I can repeat by accelerating full throttle from 3000 RPM in 5th.
Car has 48K on the clock so I hope this truly can be a warranty repair. I also have the 4 year warranty.
The clutch should not fail this early and I suspect the actual problem is the pressure plate. |

Try not to slip the clutch very much, engaging the clutch quicker is actually better even though it is jerky. Leave the car in neutral and don't hold the clutch depressed(wears out the throw out bearing) at a light. If you can, rev-match as much as possible. By this I mean if you are down shifting blip the throttle to about 3000-3500 rpm as you let out the clutch. Matching rev's dramatically increases the longevity of the clutch. Also skip gears you don't need, the fewer shifts the less clutch wear. my .02 cents. Hopefully it make cents...See what I did there. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
