XM radio

Hi all,

Can anybody tell me how XM works? I would like to buy one of those ipod adapters but it says I need to have the factory XM option.

Is the XM just a module in the trunk, or is it something built into the radio?

Re: XM radio

I believe your radio has to have the proper connections for XM, plus you need to have the XM radio box under your rear dash.

Re: XM radio

Factory XM radio in the CTS consists of a separate tuner module under the drivers side rear package shelf (carpeted area under the rear window, next to the center subwoofer), a roof mounted XM antenna for receiving satellite and terrestrial XM signals, and wiring from the XM module to the head unit. I believe ALL CTS headunits, single disc included, are XM ready. If you want to add XM, you are better off with an aftermarket kit and an interface box that allows you to connect to your factory headunit. It's relatively cheap and when installed works just like factory.

Re: XM radio

Does your car have the XM antenna on the roof? If so, your car is XM capable & the iPod adapter plugs into the XM modulator that is on the drivers side of the rear deck. I just installed the USA SPEC GM PA11-Vette kit in my 04 (Non-nav Bose) and I love it! It was simple and only took me about 45 minutes. The only thing that sucks is the adaptor only works 100% as advertised for certain iPod firmware editions. I have a new Nano that comes with version 1.1.2, but the adaptor is designed to work with 1.1.1. What this means is I can control everything from the iPod & charge the iPod, & I can change songs from the steering wheel, but I can't change playlists from the steering wheel (from the iPod yes, steering wheel no) and it doesn't display the song title on the radio screen. It says "iPod". That said, I still love it! I haven't listened to a CD or the radio once since I installed it!

Now my wife has an older Nano that has version 1.1.1 & hers will show the track title & let her jump between her top 5 playlists from the steering wheel. Not really a huge concern for me. I'm just glad I can charge the iPod & get CD quality sound from all my songs. Best mod to my car yet!

There's actually a write up on installing one of these kits here >
http://www.cadillacfaq.com/faq/answe...eus/index.html

There's also some info you might find useful here >
http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...apter-yet.html

And I'd be more than willing to help in any way.
