04 Engine Stall - Help

Remove this ad
Hey Guys,
I have a huge problem which the dealer cannot figure out, Go figure...

I have a 04 3.6 CTS with an automatic trans, 43K miles. About two years ago, my car started acting funny. The engine would randomly shut down and die for 1 second and then come back to life. When this happens, the gauges shut off and the check engine light and security light would come on. This happened about four times at hwy speeds over the years. Each time I brought the car in, the dealer found no fault codes, but reprogrammed the ECM in good measure.

Needless to say this was not the correct fix...
Now I’m to the point where the car will completely die and requires me to shift into neutral to restart the engine. It's done it twice in the past two weeks, the first time was at a full stop and the other 80mph. Scary.

Has anyone heard of a similar problem?

My money is on an ignition lock or Cam shaft position sensor?

Thanks,

Robert
