I don't really see the point in doing this. If the car is going to overheat a temp guage isn't going to stop it and there is very little you can do other than watch the needle and head to a garage. The guage may give you a few extra minutes warning, but only if you notice that it has risen above normal. If something does go wrong the temp can rise very quickly.
I would trade the analog clock for a temp guage, but I wouldn't stick an ugly aftermarket guage on my dash.
