HID upgrade for High Beam lights???

Remove this ad
Has anyone upgraded the High Beams to HID? It seems that HIDs take about 10 seconds to get fully bright, if you upgrade and want to use the "Flash to Pass" switch, do folks in front of you see your light. Right now with the stock bulbs, the high beam light is fast and bright and cars get out of my way when I flash them.

Re: HID upgrade for High Beam lights???

I wouldn't do that... They (HID's) are not meant to be flashed, Eventually they'll get damage. And yes the do take a few seconds ( not minutes ) to get fully bright. I only did the low beams on my car didn't even bother with he hi beams

Re: HID upgrade for High Beam lights???

Do it. I did it, it gives alot more light. There is glare, but since I turn my hi-beams off when I see traffic, it's ok. I'm running a 4300k hid kit. You will lose your flash-to-pass function, but you can stil use your fogs for that purpose.

Im also thinking about going back to hid fogs...3000k this time.

Re: HID upgrade for High Beam lights???

I was wondering how the stock GM HIDs handle the flash-to-pass.

By the way I put 6000k in my low beams and fogs and it's a tremendus difference

Re: HID upgrade for High Beam lights???

I thought about doing this but I wonder if its possible to rewire the headlight harnesses so the lows stay on when the high beams are on. I know on older GM 4 lamp setups you can buy and aftermarket relay harness that allows you to keep the lows on when the highs are on so you have 4 bulbs going instead of just two at a time. HID lows/highs/fogs all on at the same time would be awesome for those dark nights on country roads.
