CTS won’t run after oil change. 2005 Cadillac CTS with 3.6 L engine. Changed oil & filter, 10W30 Mobil 1 full synthetic, and Fram filter cartridge. Let set overnight before attempting to start (didn't anticipate any problem), and it would not run. It starts and runs very smoothly for just about a second, and then stops. When I turn the key on accessory, I hear the fuel pump run and then shut off. I then continue the key to start the car, and it starts every time (over and over again), but always quits after about a second or two. It acts like the fuel pump never comes back on, after the initial starting with the built up starting fuel pressure. Somewhere I read that the oil pressure sensor might need to see pressure to intiate the continuous operation of the fuel pump. If this were the case, I might have a bad oil pressure sensor, or even a bad oil pump. Whatever the problem, it stands to reason that it was the result of me changing the oil. Is this a problem you have heard of, and how can I fix it?

Re: Won't run after oil change

I would bet its something to do with the oil pressure sending unit or whatever it is they use nowadays.

Re: Won't run after oil change

How much oil did you add, and have you rechecked your filter to make sure it was installed properly? Is this your first time changing the oil on the CTS? Make sure to check the oil level and report back.

Re: Won't run after oil change

GM doesn't use the oil pressure sensor like that anymore.
It will run with no oil pressure until the engine seizes if you so choose.
It sounds to me like you might have a theft deterrent issue, when the car starts and stalls what is the security light doing? Any messages on the radio display?
This could just be some coincidence, a problem that showed up when you changed the oil.
