Mobile 1 vs. Amsoil vs. Royal purple

Remove this ad
Just wondering if anybody has run Amsoil or Royal purple full synthetic oils in their CTS's. I have the 3.6L V6 and I know the Cadillac dealer always recommends using Mobile 1 but I have been doing some research and Amsoil and Royal purple have been shown to be a better alternative. They say that engines run smoother and HP's are greater with either. I was just wanting to know if any of you actually use either of the two and if so, what's your opinion and why? I'm thinking of trying Royal Purple with my next oil change so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. And for all of you that went to the D3 meetup today, sorry I couldn't make it. I had something ver important come up and wasn't able to get there.... hopefully next time.

Trying to decide which brand oil to use is like trying to decide which condum is best. I think you should double check your research. Everything I see on the web is either sponsored or written by manufacturing companies. To be totally honest with you I don't think there's one independent report that I can find where the manufacture didn't have its hands in or actually own the web hostname or URL. Save your money and run the stuff that GM recommends in your owner’s manual and you shouldn't have any warranty issues.

Re: Mobile 1 vs. Amsoil vs. Royal purple

I ran mobil1 for a while then tried royal purple. Not worth it in my opinion. I have an oil change coming up, & i'm going to go back to Mobile. IF there IS a hp increase, its too minimal to notice, and hence not worth the 40 bucks in the cost of the oil. They also advertised an increase in MPG, yeah uh thats a negative.

mobil1 & Trojan, all the way.

Have you see the price of a quart of oil recently? It's up about a buck a quart.

Thanks for all your input guys,.... this was the whole reason I wanted feedback before I proceeded with some other brand. Thank God for forums! I think I'll just stick with mobile1. After all, what could work better than what the engineers have recommended with their engines. Thanks again!

Re: Mobile 1 vs. Amsoil vs. Royal purple

Is it time for another "which oil is best" thread already?

If you change oil every 3000 miles use dino oil. If you want to go 5000-10000 miles between changes you should run full synthetic. The money spent on full synthetic is offset by the period of time that elapses between changes. If you run full synthetic and change every 3000 miles you're senselessly throwing money away.

Re: Mobile 1 vs. Amsoil vs. Royal purple

I use Amsoil 0W-30 in my CTS for 3 yrs and I have it in my 2008 GMC. Been using it for many years. I change oil once a year which had been about how long the OCM lasts, between 7000-10000 miles. So far I have not used 1 drop of oil. I also changed the differential to Amsoil and the trans fluid.

Btw - I started using Amsoil back in 1975.....

Re: Mobile 1 vs. Amsoil vs. Royal purple

One other oil may work well for you. Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic. And this is coming from an Amsoil guy, me. Running it in my 07 nowl Autozone had a BOGO deal and I jumped on it. Bitog has had a numer of reports on this oil and it is doing very well.
Good luck.

Re: Mobile 1 vs. Amsoil vs. Royal purple

As long as the GM specs in your owner's manual are followed you're good. Mobel 1, Royal Purple, AMSOIL, Pennzoil and several other synthetic brands all meet the GM Specs for my engine. The one that goes on Sale is the winner! Condums are optional..
