Kind of a weird question, but the CTS I bought was delivered from Chicago where they require front and rear license plates. I live in Indiana and we do not. I'd like to remove the front license plate holder, as I think it takes away from the good looks of the front of the car, but the problem is they have riveted it in. There are 4 rivets of unknown width. I could easily drill them out but am concerned on the size of the holes. Will they show up bad? Is there anything I can fill them with? Maybe some kind of cap?
Any one have any experiance with this or any recommendations?
When I ordered my car from the dealer, I specifically requested that the front license plate bracket not to be installed. But when it came in, of course, it was. The bracket was riveted in just like you mentioned, and I had to drill out the rivets to remove the bracket. The crappy part was that because it was riveted, the rivets slightly pulled out the bumper right around each rivet hole. So when the braket was removed, the holes wouldn't look nearly as bad if it wasn't for the bumper pulled out a little around each hole. Long story short, I demanded they fix the holes. The dealership did, and did a pretty good job. But there are a few very small imperfections from them respraying the front bumper.
My recommendation: If you told them you did not want the bracket and they still installed it, get them to fix it. Otherwise, you might want to either leave the holes and see how they look, or get something called a "bumper plug." I have seen them around on the internet. You probably can paint them the same color as you car, and then they slip right into the holes.
