Black Chrome Powder Coat Rims
Hey everyone!
I was looking for some advice. I still have the stock rims on my '03. (they are 17s the same type as those attached below) They came with the sport luxury package and to be honest I really like them, despite being stock. I have a black powder coated V-grille and was thinking about powder coating the rims. I REALLY like the look of the black chrome rims I have seen on this board.
What do you all think, would it be stupid for me to powder coat my stock rims black chrome? It's not in the budget for me to buy new ones.
Also, how much should I expect to pay to powder coat all 4? I am expecting somewhere in the range of $300-500.

Re: Black Chrome Powder Coat Rims
I was planning on going with the black chrome as opposed to the gloss black. I bet both would look good tho. How much did it cost you to get the powder coating done?

My guy in Florida will do 4 rims Black Chrome for $300.00 but you got to ship the rim w/o the tire to and from.

^ i can't wait to do that to my winter wheels. ^
JDGuy - i had a set of wheels powdercoated for $75 each before. My LS5's came in black, so did the subzeros.
my friend has had black chrome wheels on his talon since 2002. i'll never get tired of that look.

Re: Black Chrome Powder Coat Rims
I really like the fact rims you have. I have
them as well. I had just purchased a second set due to improper cleaning from some TARD who previously owned my car.
They are not cheap..try aprox 280.00 each new.

Re: Black Chrome Powder Coat Rims
DO IT...and put up a pic...ive been thinking the same thing since i got mine because the chrome on mine is all chipped..just overall bad shape. only thing stopping me is my car is white...i was thinkin about doing a metallic gun metal dark grey on mine. almost black but not quite.

Re: Black Chrome Powder Coat Rims
I think it depends powdercoater and the base of the rim. Lucky for you that yours are polished aluminum because black chrome is a transparent color.
Here is a pic of mine in black chrome and remember my base coat was flat aluminum (not polished like yours) so your will turn out more reflective/chrome looking than mine. Also I plan on putting a few coats of clear coat over mine to make them shine a little better
BTW another great thing about this powder coat color is how it changes with different lights. Its like having different rims morning noon and night
Enjoy black chrome goodness !!

Re: Black Chrome Powder Coat Rims
Your powdercoater should have used reflective chrome powder FIRST on your wheels and then came back and shot the Black chrome over top of the reflective chrome. Its a two step process. It even says use reflective chrome first on the Label of Black Chrome powder.
The wheels get powdered and baked twice.

Re: Black Chrome Powder Coat Rims
hmm... im gonna get a beat up rim and see how it comes out with the bright chrome/black chrome process. Thought it would be more reflective.
Still, looks better the stock Luv.
