3.6 Exhaust Questions

Remove this ad
Hey all, new Cadillac owner here, very proud, 06' CTS. Anyways, It is pretty much bone stock right now, im not looking to kill my wallet right now, but being a former truck owner, I love the sound of a good exhaust, so I am wondering what is the best exhaust setup for the 3.6, I have looked on you tube, and only find stuff for the CTS V, I Know this wont sound like that. I am looking for sound more than performance really, so I am not looking to go with a full exhaust system, mainly just a nice set of mufflers, and some nice looking tips. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated, how much does all that run price wise? Thanks all.

Im sure there are tons of posts with this info but I do not have a lot of time, im at work, and ive got some pretty anal bosses.....

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

The most common exhaust mod is to find somebody with a "V" that is doing a CAT back replacement with a Corsa system or similar and buy his old setup from him. Some guys have been getting the old V system for free or just a nominal amount.

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

Yea, I have seen that on a few posts, theres one a few threads down from here, but for the 3.2, but i also saw posts where they told the guy he would lose power?? Is that true for the 3.6 as well, my understanding is that the 3.6 has the same size tubing all the way back? Thanks for your replies....

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

I got the Borla put on my 3.6. Sounds quiet, but roars when you give it gas. I love the sound it gives off.

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

Found a V exhaust, now can anyone tell me, will it really kill my performance? I am mainly looking for sound, but I do not want to LOSE performance? Will I notice the difference, or is it very subtle? Thanks for the help

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

There really needs to be some education on this board. Stock exhaust is restrictive and opening up the exhaust(cts-v style) does nothing more than move the power band. The "off the line" HP may be less, but the top end will more than offset the low end loss. People need to decide where they want the power and go from there. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You may be right. Im no engineer though.

Riddle me this-
check my mod list- ok
now, why the hell is my 1/4 mile time only slightly better than stock (if at all), while my zero to 60 is 6 seconds and stock is 6.7?? WTF??

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

Assuming the 18" wheels are heavier than stock, plus the added weight of the stb's, bigger sway bars, that could slow you down. However, as you stated, you are still faster than stock. I am no expert on 1/4 miles times but I bet your top speed is higher. There are a lot of factors that come into play in a 1/4 mile run and you need to average your runs to know for sure if your mods helped. BTW, I feel that a better 0-60 is a more usable improvement than 1/4 mile time.

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

Nick,

Next time, keep your foot on the gas.

It's like jpo96sungt said, there are a lot of factors. I see his point on the 0-60 being more important, but 1/4 mile has always been the standard in American racing. It is how I judge a car's performance.

Dan

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

doubt its the weight of your sway bars, probably talking about a difference of mere ounces. as with the stb, probably weighs like 15-20 lbs at most.

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

Ive been thinkin of just getting some flow master mufflers with some nice lookin tips. Will this create any performance? and which model should i get? Any ideas if thats even a good idea at all? I dont have the money or the real need for full exhaust, much like the thread starter, im lookin for a little sound and some nice lookin tips. But it would be nice to gain a bit with the sound , if possible.

Re: 3.6 Exhaust Questions

Alex, E&G exhaust tips (90 new, probably 40-50 if you get from a forum member) & then drill a small hole into each of your mufflers & take out some of the fiberglass out... this will give you a deeper grumble & a good looking set of tips. This is a very simple "do it yourself". one of the old threads: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...st-system.html

or you can find a in your area & buy his old stock exhaust off of him. Bolt it right onto your car in place of your stock system. boom mission accomplished. Stock V exhaust will run you anywhere from $0-100 normally. Install is a do it yourself, or you can have a shop do it (probably charge you around 50 bucks)

If its sound you're after, get an intake... Volant for the most power on a 3.6L & K&N for the most power on a 3.2L. The K&N is the louder of the 2 exhausts (and theres only a 5rwhp difference between the two) so ultimately you're after sound, then go with the K&N. I wanted power & sound, so i got the volant & cut a hole in the front of it. cost 200+ -- then you'll need tips.. E&G is the way to go (40-90 bucks)

But if you're gonna spend that much, might as well go ahead and get a set of magnaflow muffs & have your exhaust shop weld them on for you... around a 300-400 job. Not really much of a performance gain, but will give you the sound & look you're going for. (If you want power out of this deal, change out the resonator for an x-pipe).

you got a lot of options, its up to you...and don't knock that gutted stock intake idea.
