Re: Oil question (did search)

If Mobil 1 wasn't the best oil GM would not have said to use it. It's used by every manufacturer for their high performance cars . And most racing teams.

Re: Oil question (did search)

Personally, I believe using ANY synthetic oil and changing it per the oil life monitor will keep the engine from wearing out before the car does, (or until you sell it and move on to something else in 10 years)!

I'm sure GM used Mobil 1 because they got the best deal on it. Amsoil, Redline, etc are other alternatives, but cost twice as much as Mobil 1.

Here is a chart that's biased towards Amsoil, since it's from their site:

Re: Oil question (did search)

not to critisize oil companies, but.... mobil1 may NOT be the best oil i think its all a matter of individual preference. my feelings are....the day you drove the car off the lot....didnt it run great?? feel good while driving? handle perfect? wouldnt you want to keep it that way...when you bought it, it had mobil1. a/c delco plugs, gm filters. im just a firm advocate against the aftermarket

Re: Oil question (did search)

When I bought mine....the dealer in Chantilly had a sticker on it that had Castrol Syntec on it....

I used Mobil 1 for the first oil change that I did........just because....but I 'personally' don't think it really makes THAT much difference...as long as you're using A synthetic oil..it's going to do it's job like it should..........

But..that's just me....

Re: Oil question (did search)

Mobil1 isnt a true synthetic tho...its a group III. There was a post on this wintin the last 2 weeks, and it gives substantial info on this subject.

Like said above, unless you notice problems with the car, Id see no need to switch to a pure synthetic. The extra cost might not be worth it.

Re: Oil question (did search)

I wipe my bottom with the furs from freshly clubbed emu's.

There was a story out of Canada a few years ago when a guy had his Chevy pickup run 1,000,000 km's (about 600,000 miles), with orignal motor, tranny, etc. Only the usual wear items were replaced. The engine was still fine at that point, as well, but GM bought it back from him and gave him a new truck.

His trick? He changed his oil every friday and left his vehicle running all day long in the winter, instead on constantly stopping and starting it (I forget his job, but it required his to turn his engine on/off continuosly.)

Funny that you mention that.

and

According to the SAE. It is infact no a good idea to change oil to soon as it will increase engine wear on the motor. That document is paid for though

Re: Oil question (did search)

I ended up getting some Mobil 1 cause I cant find any places in my area that sell royal purple and can change it for me. My complex doesnt allow washing or working on cars.... Anybody know a place in the SGV that does? Or even in the IE?
