The CTS is known for dwarfing rims, especially the rear ones. I think the idea of larger rims at the back, makes sense.
If I had any say in it, the factory minimum size would be 18".
16" look small
17" look like they should be stock (plain and boring)
18" rims look nice
19" rims look perfect for the gen 1 CTS, although probably too bumpy with FE3 shocks
20" is borderline too big
23" belongs on a DTS |
i totally agree with this statement.
by the way, 245/45R19 is 7.7% (or 2") taller than stock, hence the raked look.
if you had 19X9, i'd suggest 265/35R19 for a match in overall tire height front to back. i guess you could fit the 265 on an 19X8, but it would look bulgy from the side, and i would worry about the bead seals. |

The only thing negative I can come up with is that the tires just look too tall. Maybe stepping down to 40-series on both ends would look better. Good job, though. | Thx for the feedback. Yeah the style of rim are somewhat old school (5 spoke). Front are a larger diameter than the stock sport 17" setup. They are now the same diameter as the stock V setup (18" 245/45). The rears are larger still, with the same 245/45 ratio, but with 19" rims. Yeah 40's might look better, but my first choice would be to remain with the current, and then lower with springs. We'll see... |

I agree with your analysis. I really like the V tire profile, but felt the rear well needed to be filled more, hence the larger overall diameter. Re the staggered setup, it seems to be more common. I believe the latest 'vette is staggered as is the Challenger (to name only two.) Glad I went this route though. No rubbing after taking 4 adults on a 6 hour drive. (Well the tires weren't. The adults were...) |

The current C6 Vettes have an 18/19 stagger like yours and the previous generation C5 Vettes had a 17/18 stagger. The Chevrolet SSR had a 19/20 stagger and the Plymouth Prowler had a 17/20 stagger. I have 19/20 on my show truck. It's much more common to find staggered widths rather than staggered diameters on production vehicles.
I'm still impressed with looking at your pics, though. It looks so right. |

Originally Posted by 03cts sport Thanks. (Can't think of anything other than the Prowler getting away with the 17/20...) | So true. Personally, a 1" stagger is all I can usually stand. The Prowler got away with it and some of the hot rods (highboys, t-buckets, etc) can get away with the 3-4" staggers too, but that's about it. I'm in the custom truck scene and a lot of guys run 18/20 or 20/22 combos, and it generally looks like crap to me. A guy here in my town has an '80's model Chevy pickup with a 17/20 combo and it's just nasty like that. Too bad, because the rest of the truck is beautiful. My 19/20 combo is next to unheard of in my scene. Most people just think I have 20s all around. That's what I was after. |

Funny that you say that as I was also looking for a subtle difference. Bottomline is that I just wanted to prevent the rear from looking small. (I think the high trunkline makes the rear wheel look small, much like the Aztec did.) When I first posted pictures I asked members to guess on the size. I don't believe anyone guessed that they were staggered, which is the outcome I was aiming for...
Thanks for all the feedback. |

I've seen it in person, and it really fits the car. the new Challenger concept is a similar fitment. i hope those wheel options make it to the production models. |

I wouldn't expect larger than 20's as an option on the production cars. We'll see.
The production Challengers are available with 17", 18" or 20" wheels. No staggered combos. |
