I know, I know Does anyone know how to play DVD's while driving when you've got an aftermarket player? I found all the threads about the factory dvd/nav player but nothing about an aftermarket player. Any help would be appreciated, and sorry if this has been asked before. Just point me in the right direction.
Thanks! |

I know, I know It wouldnt tell you in a instruction booklet, if that was the case everyone could drive around with it illegally hooked up. But to answer your question brian there are 2 types of screens, ones that just detect if the parking brake is on which is ussually the pioneers, eclipses, dual, and jensen to name a few and then you have the ones that are a little harder to get past that want you to engage the parking break while its detecting which would be some ofthe newer alpines, you will need a switch for those that you ground and then flip when it is detecting. As for the pioneers etc all you have to do is t tap into you ground wire with the parking break wire |

I know, I know Yeah..I've had an aftermarket before and it definitely doesn't tell you how to because its ILLEGAL. I had a hard time finding a shop that would do it for me but there is always one... |

They have a great forum that will point you in the right direction if you get a pioneer. They have step by step instructions to bypass the nav yourself. www.avic411.com |

I know, I know When i do bypass's on pioneer decks, i just use a relay, the e brake wire needs to be grounded after the deck turns on, so all you do is use the amp turn on to trigger the relay, and send a ground signal to the park brake wire, done. No pulling pins nothing. Works like a charm every time. |

sad but true. some people are so greedy they care not about the deaths or injuries their actions will cause.
people watching videos while driving should have their cars confiscated and then crushed. |

point is, if you want to not be looking at the road, if you want to be watching a movie while behind the wheel, you can do it & not a damn things stopping you.
its like saying "car manufacturers shouldnt make cars that can exceed 75mph. they care not abou tthe deaths or injuries their actions will cause" or gun manufacturers? tint manufacturers and installers? ...
If i had a monitor in the dash then you bet i'd want it to be able to play while the car is in motion... my passenger can watch if she/he wants to and if i want to look down when stuck in traffic or at a light or whenever, i can. Responsibility and judgment come into play in this equation.
in a nutshell... relax |

in a nutshell... relax | You summed it up perfectly when you said
"Responsibility and judgment come into play in this equation."
People that do not use responsibility and judgement and choose to watch videos while driving should have the book thrown at them. Watching a video while driving is a surefire recipe for a terrible accident. These in dash video machines are designed not to work while driving for a reason, to keep the roads safe for all. For any business to modify one to allow a driver to watch videos while driving is ethicly bankrupt.
If you have a passenger that you want to be able to view a video while travelling, they should be sitting in the back seat. I do not want to be on the same road with someone driving and watching videos or even having one distracting them while driving because it is playing on the dash right in front of them. I too, like you have no problem if they were to watch them while stopped or stuck in traffic,I am also sure you have to agree that watching videos while driving is unsafe. |

I know, I know without taking this thread off on a tangent & talking about whether shops should step in & provide their service in 'overriding the factory setting' i just want to say.
put a speed limiter on your car, dont let it go faster than 70. its not safe. don't want to be on the same road as someone going 71mph or more.
turn off your cellular device and put the battery for your cell phone in the trunk of the car while you're driving.
eliminate aftermarket exhausts so people can hear a car horn without any restriction
this all will create a 'safer driving environment' & fall under the category of what you said below. Quote: |

yes i agree that watching videos while driving is unsafe.
but then, so is text messaging or dialing a number or searching through contacts on your phone while driving. what do you propose? throw it in the trunk? cell phone manufacturers should build technology to detect when the cell phone is in a traveling vehicle that doesnt have its emergency brake on?
same thing with those who have ipods with video playback capabilities?
throw the book at the guy who stole a car, not the one who wants to actually use a feature he paid for.

I know, I know Kid you are not smelling what I am cooking at all, I am not saying we limit speed or throw cell phones into trunks. relax and re read the title of this thread.
it says "Aftermarket DVD player - Watch while driving...? I know, I know" Watch while Driving that means to watch videos WHILE driving.
nothing more nothing less. Watching video while driving is dangerous to everyone on the road, kids playing that may chase a ball or pet out into the street etc etc.
You are WAAAAY off base if you think for a second I was thinking of any of the other ideas you floated. This thread is titled WATCH WHILE DRIVING thats it,thats all. Anyone driving while watching videos is an idiot with no regard for his fellow drivers or anyone else near the road. |

I know, I know I titled it 'watch while driving' because I wanted to find out how to play the videos while the car is in motion. Not necessarily ME watching while I drive, rather my passengers. Sorry I wasn't more specific. |
