? mounting suggestions for HID ballast?

Remove this ad
I just purchased the Xenon Vision HID 6000K kit for my CTS and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on where to mount the ballast? I believe it has an internal ignitor so besides the actual bulb, there is only the ballast. The kit also came with a mounting bracket, zip ties, and 3M double sided tape. Thanks for the suggestions and pics or links to pics would be greatly appreciated.

Ian

Re: ? mounting suggestions for HID ballast?

Place them in right where the headlight housing goes. When you install you will see there is room.
Measure and drill two holes from the bottom up when the headlight housing is removed, bolt down the housing and then install the headlight assembly in. I got it done on my car, and I had to hide 6 ballasts and I have no car knowledge at all.

Re: ? mounting suggestions for HID ballast?

Use double face tape and stick it on the top of the foglight housing. I've had mine there for about six months and it's still on there solid.

Yea some come with lows, and you would know for sure if you had them. They are blue/white and bright as hell.

Re: ? mounting suggestions for HID ballast?

I have the slim digital ballast.

I put it right inside the housing on one of the flat surfaces with the adhesive tape. I did not have to drill a single. hole.

The adhesive tape is very strong and the ballast / adhesive is protected from moisture inside the sealed housing.

The ballast may get warm but not as warm as the halogen bulb.

If you ever wanted to remove the kit, you'd never know it was there before.

Hey Guru,... How long have you had them inside the housing and have you ever looked inside after you installed them in there to see if there is any internal damage? Sounds like a great idea as opposed to drilling holes and trying to recreate a seal.

Re: ? mounting suggestions for HID ballast?

There is no internal damage. The whole kit produces less wasted heat energy than a halogen bulb.
The ballast has a protection circuit inside anyway.

The kits are so inexpensive and robust these days I wouldn't worry about it. I can now remove and put back my bumper in less than 30 minutes anyway.

He does not mean stick the ballast in the housing. You stick the ballast where the housing goes because there is a little room left over.
You DO NOT take apart your headlight assembly.

Re: ? mounting suggestions for HID ballast?

Yes I do mean stick the ballast in the housing!

My ballast is a super slim digital one with an auto shutoff feature. There is tons of space inside the housing. Simply mount your ballast inside the actual light housing on one of the flats and then close the round twist cap. Everything goes neatly inside the housing.

I have run my lights with the engine running and verified the temperature. The little corner lights get warmer!
