    Part Name/# help (2003 CTS)

See picture the part is the copper finish bulb with the tube connections shown in the lower center of the picture. It is located on the radiator on the passenger side. It appears its some sort of sensor for a coolant bypass or something. Mine has cracked at the tube connections and thus isn't functioning. I would like to get it through GMpartsdirect or something like that to save over dealer cost.

    Thanks

If it is below and forward of that valve that is the auxiliary coolant pump.
When the engine is shut off it pumps coolant through that bypass valve and runs the fan to keep the engine from getting too hot after shut down.
Pretty goofy, but I guess it works.
They do crack and leak often.

I'm at work and can't get the picture shrunk back down after circling the thing. Its located dead center, 1/3 the way up from the bottom. It has a blue connector on one end, then a large copper colored body in the center with two black tube connections at the other end with tubes coming out of them.

    Thanks

i cant see what it is that your talking about, but if its a plastic "T" with what looks to be high pressure ends, mine busted too. luckily i was close to our local advance autoparts where i bought a vaccum "t", some gasket glue, and some zip ties, it limped me around till monday and i could get the other piece, which now that i think of it, ive never put on.lol. so if thats ur problem, thats what u need to fix it, it seems like i gave close to $50 for the "T" from the dealership when i bought it.

Actually I just realized the angle I was looking at this thing from.

You say the solenoid appears to be leaking coolant or something further down?
The only thing in THAT picture that should have coolant in it is the bypass valve. it has 3 coolant hoses attaching to it.
The thing below that I earlier mistook for the aux water pump is actually the control solenoid for the bypass valve which has no coolant in it. Sorry... not sure why I didn't look at the picture properly before.
Can you take another photo a bit closer of the component in question?

We are getting the P0128 code, but the book says to check that valve first. Our is definitely bad... no action and no hold if you remove the hose and block the port. What is the part number/price for the coolant bypass valve?

Re: Part Name/# help (2003 CTS)

This by pass valve is the same one I am replacing. Not because it doesn't work,it's because I broke the support that sticks our from the side. My car is a 2003 CTS and the by pass is on the left side of the radiator. Is there an aftermarket that is made to last? My mistake, looked at the picture wrong, it's on the same side as mine. But that's it. It all started with an alternator replacement now I have a crack on the radiator and broke the by pass valve. So, Radiator, bypass valve replacement. by the way, to buy a replacement auto zone wants over 100 dollars for the bypass valve.
