Front V bumper & New fog lights

Are the stock fog lights compatible with the front V bumper? I have the clear fog light lenses coming and just finally decided I wanted the lower bumper.

they are, and a few members have done it before, but its not plug n play, only the cts v lights are, even the sts v lights need a little modding.

What all has to be done to make the stock CTS lights fit?

The fogs them selfs will fit fine... It is the brackets that attach to the bumper that the fogs are in that are the problem.

I dont know exactly what you would need to do to get the CTS fog brackets onto the V bumper, but some say they have done it. I would assume it isnt that easy.

Re: Front V bumper & New fog lights

Actually, it's very easy. I just did it on Monday using the regular CTS bracket.

The CTS bracket is fastened to regular bumper at 3 locations...

    1) Top - inside
    2) Side
    3) Bottom Center

#1 will screw into the V bumper in exactly the same spot, but #2 and 3 will NOT line up with any holes in the V bumper.

Start by attaching the bracket using the original screw for hole #1.

Remove the metal clip on hole #3 (bottom of the fog bracket) and you will have room for a 1/4" Stainless Steel machine screw. Drop the screw through the hole and mark where it hits the bumper with a marker. You will find that the screw hits a spot on the lower inside bumper flange where the wind dam covers. There is a gap of just over an inch between the hole on the bracket and the inside of the bumper.

Drill a hole using an ordinary 1/4" bit and fasten the screw (2"-2.5" long) to the bumper using a Stainless washers / nuts passing the screw through the hole in the bottom of the fog bracket. Then clamp from both sides with compression washers / nuts (all stainless).

Hole number 3 is not necessary and is not used.

It took me about 10 minutes for mounting both lights after pondering for several hours with my friend of what the best move would be.

At first I was worried about drilling through the bumper, but it is very easy to drill a neat hole in precisely the right spot. It doesn't matter anyway since the fog light is actually bigger than the opening. This allows for some misalignment of the bracket. The housing is also adjustable (pivots) on the bracket with a set screw if you wanted to fine tune the angle.

I just could not fork out over 500 bucks plus Canada Customs to buy the V bracket from gmpartsdirect.com. I only paid $420 for a painted V bumper! For $500 I could get a good HID kit plus a spoiler.

Good write up... this might be slightly off topic but does the splash plate (or whatever its called) from the CTS bumper fit on the CTS-v, or is that something you have to order seperatly?

You don't need anything except the bumper and lower grille. Everything else is the same including fender liners and wind dam.

I did not take any pics, sorry.

Excellent write up... exactly what I was wanting to hear too! I just couldn't see buying V brackets or even STS brackets for that matter. Thanks again!

i'm a lil bit confused... is the number 3 holes not neccesary or what? you first mention the modification needed for the #3 and then : Hole number 3 is not neccesar and is not used..

The 3 screws are needed or else your fogs will rattle when driving...

hole #3 needs to be made.....simple...you can get a plastic piercing screw for that...

I think that answer's your question??? or maybe just confuse's ya ;-)

Let me ask....have you disassembled it?
