HID Ballast location

Remove this ad
So I purchased some HIDs today; lows, highs, and 9005s for the fogs.
Who ever has em, where did you place the ballasts?
Do I have to connect HID Ballasts directly to my battery? or does it use the wires that were connected to the bulbs? If so, where do I find these wires?
It should be a bit of time before they actually arrive at my door (week, tops 2) since I ordered them of vvme and I live in Canada.

Re: HID Ballast location

If your ballest is small enough you could mount it in the stock ballest location (which is located under the headlight I believe)
err...ballAst.
Mine was not small enough to fit, you should be able to find a place to put it. I did not mount mine, they are sitting loose (dont really remember, did my conversion about 2 years ago)
Follow the instructions that come with your conversion kit, you DO NOT wire them to your battery. It is very simple plu g'n'play. You will need to drill a small hole into the back cover of your headlight housing to let the wires through.

Re: HID Ballast location

I only did my low beams so I only had 1 ballast per side, your gonna have to find a place for 2 ballasts per side, since you want to go high beams. Personally, I think you should get your money back and send the high beams back, you will prob. never have to use them again.

Re: HID Ballast location

You suggest doing the low beams only. What brand/model would you recommend?

Re: HID Ballast location

I hope you got some slim ballasts since there's not a lot of room to mount on the headlight.
You're headlight should have an OEM spot for one ballast, even though you don't have HID's. That's the ideal spot to mount, if you can fit it... mine did not fit, but it was not a slim ballast.

From what I remember, there was no way that I could have mounted 2 full size ballasts per side.. unless they were stacked on top of each other maybe.
I probably wouldn't suggest doing that though..

Re: HID Ballast location

You can put a ballast in the stock location which you will see on the headlight and maybe one resting on the metal right behind and under the headlight. There is a small place for a ballast there, but you are going to be short on room I can tell you.
