    hey 04, i have an appointment at courtesy tommorow, they are charging me $54 to program 2 replacement keys and a fob. i called around and they are the cheapest. i'll let you know how it works out.

    You can't reprogram a key that's already been programmed once, at least without a TECHII. If you blow it the first try you are H-A-D had.

    Any GM dealership and some independents will have a TECHII.

    I think this works with certain years. Just not sure which. The guy at the dealer checked my vin and said that's easy and did it for me. It took him a couple a minutes not 10 minutes. He just waited for that security light to go out each time.

    I know this is a bit of a revival to an old thread but:

    I've come to realize (after trying unsuccessfully and then doing more research) that Canadian CTS's cannot have a new key added without having two originals. I've also tried the "programming without a master key" method (10min x three method) which was also unsuccessful and I'm convinced this is another Canadian feature

    My question is, and hopefully this makes sense, if a Tech II is used to program the key - does it need to be connected to the GM online system or can it be done in "local" mode?

    Anyone have knowledge in this area?
