Are you saying that warranty can be denied simply because you didnt buy new?

Re: 2005 CTS Oil consumption

if your under warranty and burning oil. get to the dealer and demand they do the engine cleaning process.

GM has a special part number for the decarbonizer which will free up your rings.

I just make sure i give it a pretty good rip once a day on the on ramp. I put some ring free stuff in the oil and seems to be a little better but i burn a half quart every 1500.

Re: 2005 CTS Oil consumption

the original factory warranty CANNOT be denied just because you bought the vehicle used. but no dealer nor gm is obligated to offer any goodwill assistance in the case your vehicle is out of warranty.

Re: 2005 CTS Oil consumption

I am having same problem with my 2005 CTS of oil consumption of 1 qt every 1k to 1.5k miles. I have 49,950 miles on car and it seems to be running fine and I did not buy it from the local Cadilac dealer. Should I get the car into the dealer before it goes out of warranty? I did buy an extended warranty from a different company.
Sam

Re: 2005 CTS Oil consumption

My wife's 05 3.6 ltr is doing the same thing about a quart a week. This is crazy. I wish I knew this before we bought it, I would have bought a different vehicle if I would have known this.

Talking Re: 2005 CTS Oil consumption

just a quick statement about oil consumption, coming from someone who deals with this every day. All engines consume oil. Its in the engineering. When there are clearances and tolerances there will be oil consumption.
I see every day a car towed in with no oil , or a check engine light with no oil. And 90 percent of the time it has been 7-8 thousand miles since the last service. And the air filter is clogged and there is about 10-20 psi in tires.
Well this is not a warranty issue it is a lack of maintenance .period.
Yes i have seen the bulletin about the rings and seals , and i am aware of the chain issue(btw that is not the first time ive heard intergalatic backorder)
but think about this- if you read the owners manual it is the owners responsibility to check the air in the tires every month or earlier, and "if the oil life is accidently reset the oil will need to be changed at 3000 miles".
Therefore if you are already outside checking the air in the tires , why not check the oil to. It makes sense , if you get in your car and drive with bad tires and kill someone you are responsible, the same thing goes here. If you drive without oil you are responsible for damaging your engine.
A simple solution is go to dealer every month between oil changes for a free air pressure check and ask if the would be nice enough to check your oil, im sure they will cause i do it every day (tip not included).
The people that are using more than 2 quarts between oil change (5000) miles do have a problem and it needs to be delt with.
Most likely caused by previos owner neglect, we say in the shop where i work that these engines arent burning oil , its the sludge absorbing the oil.
Also note that the independent shops that run specials on synthetic only put 4 quarts oil in your engine, to make profit
i am not bashing anyone here im just tired of seeing engine damage from neglect , you have to remember gm is having problems already, why make it worse.
Simply stated the simplified maintenace is really simplified neglect, and gm is flipping the tab.
So if anyone here has a question or needs help with this issue i can help as this is what i do. So feel free to leave me a message and i will do what i can for you.
Have a nice day and for gods sake buy american gm AMERICAN

yea it doesnt make sense. Why would he say its normal when clearly there is a fix that they will charge someone 3 hours of labor for a 45 min. job.
