Passenger Rear Window Problem, not Motor or Regulator

Remove this ad
Soooo, I accidentally rolled down the passenger rear window and I hear this awful sound, like a gear stripping.

I took it apart and one of the pulleys on the end of the assembly apparently melted and the cable came off of the pulley which caused the cable to come off of the pulley and wind around the motor which caused one end of the cable to unseat from the middle pulley.

The motor seems fine, but the cable is bent BAD in about 10 places and I could replace it, but the top pulley is JACKED as well.

For those that are familiar with the inner workings of these doors, do you have any ideas.

I assume I am going to have to replace the whole assembly.

Any ideas?

Any body have one laying around?

Know where I can get one?

I have been looking for a parts car.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Passenger Rear Window Problem, not Motor or Regulator

About $350 retail at dealer. Damaged doors at a junk yard will likely have a damaged regulator. Talk to some mechanics at dealer. I know a Buick mechanic who has a few for LeSabres. I suspect some Caddy mechanics would also have some.

Re: Passenger Rear Window Problem, not Motor or Regulator

I just reread the 2nd to last post. Are you implying that lesabres have the same window regulators?

Most likely not. My point is that various dealer mechanics frequently have a couple of used parts around that they will sell cheap. Problem is that you do not want to ask mechanics for parts in front of their boss. Take some $$ and donuts into shop, and quietly ask electrical mechanic if he has any for sale.

Re: Passenger Rear Window Problem, not Motor or Regulator

Hey man! - Saw your thread. Do you have any pointers or diagrams I might be able to use to help guide me through the process of taking the door apart. My window regulator has problems too and I am facing the task of disassembly with the same window on an 04. Is there any room to manuver in there? Sounds like The regulator must be a cable arrangment rather than arms. Can you help? Did you find any parts for yours?

Big Dave

Re: Passenger Rear Window Problem, not Motor or Regulator

I bought both of my rears off of Ebay. Two different vendors; about the same price. Great customer service from both.

You need to go to the parts store and get a door panel remover. LISLE makes a GREAT one. It has a red handle and looks like a weird screwdriver.

Have an able bodied assistant that is good with their hands.

You will also need some BLUE painters tape to hold the glass in place once you remove the regulator.

The trim piece behind the door handle release just pops off, but be careful. You need to push down on the top and up on the bottom to get it to release.

There is a bolt cover behind the door pull handle.

You might need to pull the inside and outside weatherstrip that around the top of the door off.

The door lock cover is kinda a booger to remove, but if you have a very small flat blade scredriver then it comes right off.

Be carefull as you take the door panel off, you will need to pull the door panel back a little to locate the clips that hold it on and to stick in the door panel remover tool.

Once you get the door panel off, you will have to remove a small module.

Then you need to take the vapor barrier off. Grab a corner and pull briskly so as to remove all of the black goo on to the vapor barrier itsel instead of the door.

Tape the window back to itself.

Start removing the bolts and the regulator will come out.

Repeat process in reverse order.

I am sure I have missed some very minor steps, but that is about it.

PM me if you need help.

Repair at your own risk!
