I am a new owner of a 2003 Cadillac CTS (4 months) and i am in need for some new brake pads. I recently called my dealership and they told me it would be 750 about for all four brake pads to be done, including shaving the rotors if it needed too. I was wondering why is this so costly for pads...i even called a brake place...and they were even shocked with the price!
my question two question are ...can i buy brake pads and just get them to install it? and is it really this expensive for CTS brakes?
I would appreciate this a lot if you guys can help me out on this...
thank you

That's absolutely insane.
Yes, you can just buy brake pads and have someone install them. Or do it yourself, it's not that hard.
Luke @ Lindsay Cadillac (they are our forum vendor) will sell you a set of Hawk HPS (VERY good pads) for about $200, front and back. I think it's close to that price, you'll have to ask him for more info.
Since the car's a '03... You might want to just get new rotors as well. Check out the link here: http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...ed-rotors.html
They are a steal at that price. Awesome performance. Car stops much better on the street as well.

Stock vs UUC:
I even wrote up a step by step on how to install them: http://www.jon04ctsv.com/brakes/
The price for all the brake pads (Hawk HPS) and rotors is $595. That's less than the $750 your dealer wanted for just pads. Pay someone to install them, it won't take long, or do it yourself. I'm sure if you bought the sweet UUC cross drilled & slotted rotors and Hawk pads for $595, then paid someone to install them, it'll still be less than $750.

WOW are you serious. $600 for all rotors and brake pads. Thats a steal man...I have one concern before actually purchasing them, and its are the brake pads performance ones? Because i want OEM brakes because i heard that they wear out faster. Other then that I'm thinkin about getting them both!
BTW you have two sick ride man...just love what you did to them caddy...keep up the crazy modification Jon!
Thank you very much Jon for the information, it puts me at ease.
To Kbevere:
You and me are alike, i know what is what but i rather get the professionals to get the job done. I dont want to mess up and get into more problems since this is costly enough you know. The only people i know that can work on my cadillac is the dealership (which is a rip-off) |

The Hawk HPS pads are for street use, but good enough for the weekend autocrosser. They dust very lightly, and last as long as you don't race the car on the track.
One thing to keep in mind is... Some pads may wear faster, but it's either the pads or the rotors. If the pads don't wear out quickly, chances are, your rotor is. Something's gotta give, right?
Send Luke @ Lindsay Cadillac an e-mail about the pads and rotors:

He's our forum vendor so we get great deals.
Tell him Jon told ya about the awesome UUC brakes and he'll know what you're talking about.
And thanks for the compliments on my cars. |

I was wondering if I should get now, before winter or even this spring?...my brake pads are about 20% left before doin some damage to the rotors.(If i do leave them will they cause more damage to anythign else?) I'm also afraid of what British Columbia Canada's weather will do to these rotors since it an get pretty cold!!
I just want ur guys opinon before actually going through with it
Thanks guys!!!!!!

Why risk your own safety? The rotors will be fine over the winter. I wouldn't drive around in crappy weather with brakes that need replacing. |

My friends friend said he can also install them on for me for 150 bucks.....I'm pretty sure thats a deal...well hopefully...and yea...he said he will also bleed the breaks for me (which i have no clue what that means) because it will need to be done (he's hookin me up?)... and certain bolts have to be at the right torque doesnt it.....will there be a difference if i go to my friend to do it or the professionals?
Once Again
Thank you for your guys opinions
