Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

It's that damn center console in the 2nd gen. You cannot lean your right leg to the right, because there is simply no room for it. You have to keep your leg extended, which means having the seat farther back, which means reaching farther for the steering wheel.
What ever happened to telescopic wheels that you could pull out towards you?

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

HARLEY is home!
my buddy rode her for a hour down the highway.. it was really cold out but he put on heavy leather that i got him last year for free, and a lot of underarmour gear for warmth.
i havent even ridden her yet, ill do that tomorrow afternoon, ive got a few appointments in the morning ive got to get to and then i have to go back tot he dealer and buy oil.

he did mention that he likes riding his sport bike for longer hauls better... he hates where my foot controls are.
ill see how i like there, there is a kit to move them forwards. also no fairing and windscreen he said you really get blown around on the highway.i had a eye on a used on but the posting is gone.

ill take her for a spin tomorrow after i change the oil.

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

mike...he dont like were your foot controls are because he is use to them on his bike. i am the same way when i ride somebody else's bike. and as far as riding a sport bike for a long hual, the hell with that, your back starts to hurt after a little while regardless of the sport bike. my ninja is a more straight up posture but it still starts to hurt my back after about an hour riding on the highway

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

Ya he is use to where his controls are. He also spent a few hundred (600 I think) on aljustable rear sets so he can move his controls 1/4 inch at a time...up down left right, till he gets it perfect.
I've been out on mine a bit today. Love it!
I went to hit the left signal and pushed the horn oops... So I just waived at the guy outside so I didn't look like a a-hole. Lol.
Gotts play around with it a little more. I'm going to change the oil today, and I got new plugs for it but I want to measure the gap on them before I put them in. So I have to borrow the gap tool.

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

There's storms over all of the Tampa Bay area at the moment. As the rain was just starting here, I went outside and washed my baby with McQuire's wash and wax. Then I came in and the rain picked up and rinsed it thoroughly for me. Now the rain is beading beautifully and I may be able to dry it off and buff it if the rain ever stops.

I'm headed to the casino sometime before 4am to see if I've won a million dollars. There's been a contest for the last three weeks and today is the last day and as of 4am early this morning, nobody had won yet. I get one chance before 4 and one chance after 9am, if no one has won yet. I should take my microfiber towels with me and try to buff the car inside the parking garage.

Pffft. I have the black box kit, along with black detailer and the black tire coat from turtle wax. Cleaning a black car works for only about 4 hours, then as dust lands on it, pollen, etc... its basically back to dirty.

I'm waiting for KOT to send me the vid of the karting I did in GPNY. Ran 2 quick runs while I was out there.

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

just ordered this awesome gauge for my Harley today. i had to replace it because mine was in mph and in canada we use km/h
i wanted a tach, so to do that with oem guages i would have to get a dual cluster and pay $400 each guage.. kinda insane.
so i paid $350 with shipping for a single digital one with intergrated tach, gear position, fuel level, shift light indicator and a whole wackload of other features.

it comes in blue and red, but even their website recommends the blue for better visibility in day and night...i would rather red but i ordered blue.

TX have you been back out on your bike?

i have to say the sportster is very easy to handle... its more manageable than the bikes we used for the safety course, and i love how crisp yet clunky the shifter is... it lets you know when you are in gear. had her out today for a few min, but its freaking cold... a town just 30 min from me got 1ft of snow today... we got a little drizzle but it was +5 or so ... no snow where i was.

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

mike...i havent gotten out on my bike at all, but the insurance adjuster finally came yesterday. as soon as he seen the bike he said it was totaled, which i still cant figure out because the damage isnt that bad. only thing i can say is that the fairings cost a ton and that is going to be the reason why it is totaled. and i guess the smaller items that need replaced do add up. if i can buy it back for cheap, then i will fix it and sell it myself. the funny thing though, he seen my helmt and snapped pictures of that and all he kept saying was "the dude ran over your head". i was like yeah dude i know, no need to replay it for me...haha

so what year and model sportster do you have again mike? i have been looking at some Harley's and i do like the sportster myself

A gear indicator is awesome to have in a motorcycle. When you are riding around in traffic, you would be surprised how easy it is to loose track of which gear you are in.

My agent told me that a big part of the reason of the high insurance rates of sport bikes is all the expensive plastic bodywork. It is very easy, and extremely likely, that your bike is gonna get knocked over in a parking lot. That's why you need to put sliders on. If your bike falls over, it lands on the sliders, not the fairings.

Plus 5 C is 40 F, so now I'm even more certain that Mike has gone insane.
did we loose the like button???? mine is MIA.

yes... i was in my house all day and saw a glimpse of sun so i put on all my gear and a snowboard jacket to block the wind then went out for a rip.

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

jimmy - yes the gear indicator is very valuable... i know im new to riding so eventually im sure i wont need it but i found myself in 3rd or 4the gear and needing to get into 2nd for a tighter corner and couldnt remember what gear i was in...so i would just drop 1 gear and sometimes bogg out a little or just have to feather the clutch and keep the rpm up enough so i dont freewheel. (they taught us that in the course)

tx - i have a 2007 sportster XL 883. i bought it so i can do the 1200 bore kit on it and keep the lower insurance rate... but the more i look at it im thinking once i get my 3 years experience i may just buy the bigger engine Harley 48 (sportster) 1200cc. i like the look of that bike much better, but its built on the same frame.

the 1200 wont pull as hard off the line because of the gearing but 2nd gear and higher it will. so if you can test some 1200's and some 883's

You will definitely get used to it after a while. But even when you are experienced, when you are creeping along in traffic, it's easy to loose track. The absolute worst is when you come to a stop in a higher gear. I am not sure about harleys, but good luck getting a sport bike from 5th to 1st when you aren't moving :D

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

I don't think sliders will do much in a crash. But they will protect fairings if the bike gets knocked or pushed over when parked. The problem is that some bikes require holes in the fairing or offset sliders. My ZX6 was one of them. The fairings on that bike were a bitch. There must have been a dozen screws per side. My 500 had a single lower fairing that was held by 6 or so.

Swing arm sliders are great because they double as pegs for a swing arm stand. Much more secure than the stands that grab on to the swing arm directly.

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

heres my current speedo

heres me getting gas (notice my full face crotch rocket helmet!

here she is in my garage.

this is the OEM Harely headlight im going to buy. in this pic its on a sportster 48 along with a few other mods..
but i talked to a guy that had it on his 2011 883 iron and he loves it. he said it has amazing light output. its a harley part, so its about $400 but i think its worth it.
ill be buying it in a month or 2.... i want to get a intake, exhaust, power commander 5 and a dyno tune before the headlight. im just trying to decide what pipes, and then what filter isnt overpriced

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

jimmy you are absolutely correct. the sliders generally wont do much in a crash, but because my bike was laid down lightly if that is even possible in a wreck), the insurance adjuster and myself believe it could have saved the fairings at a minimum. the thought of it saving the frame a bit is just a "it may have helped" type thought

ya they can only do soo much.
im you can get aftermarket plastics that are made in china for $500 shipped to canada..im sure you can get a similar deal there.

Mike, today it was under 20 C here and I was shivering outside of the grocery store trying to smoke a cigaret. I met a nice 50 yr old blond with a 2007 SLK so it was worth getting cold.
i would like this story more if it wasnt for you smoking...

hope u got her number man.. sounds like she has a nice car.

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

Well, I became a young Widower with a 3 year old boy 27 years ago .
It was no easy row to hoe, brother .

He came out good though . :)

Light of my life .

Kad
Well, not many girls would find it an ideal marriage proposal. "I want to knock you up a couple of times and die. Here's a bunch of money."

I'm sure you did a great job, Kad. Now if I could find somebody to take that on willingly...
