fwiw, I hate IE. It is so slow on most websites. I only use it when I have to. I do my payroll online, and they only accept IE.
I had the IE9 beta from day one; I'm not about to switch.

Google Chrome ? You realize you gave them all your children and not just the first born son, don't you ? Seriously, accepting Google's Terms of Agreement is totally surrending your privacy rights.

It loaded on the second try again.

i've got a facebook account too

they only know what you give them

what search engine do you use?
i assume you don't use gmail or hotmail either, right?

    do you block ads?
    do you block javascript?
how does you browser handle cookies?
are you a member of any email mailing lists?

the EFF has a "Top 12" online privacy tips article - it's pretty good
nowhere on it do they say 'don't use google'
    https://www.eff.org/wp/effs-top-12-w...online-privacy

ensuring and protecting your privacy online has more to do with you and your actions than what software you use

    ...

I find that the incognito mode is sufficient for when i want to feel private

    ...

what parts of this TOS are the ones where I'm surrendering my privacy?

Chris, I use IE9, Bing, msn mail, Live Essentials, Security Essentials, and Java SE 7.

Haven't you been following the lawsuits against Google regarding the information they collect and how they (mis)use it ?

People used to value their privacy, but now they throw a naked picture of themselves on the internet for all to see and think nothing of it. Its not just the internet; at the airport your once sacred rights are gone. Drug tests at schools ? It used to be a matter of constitutional right against search, but not anymore. They took away schoolkids' civil rights after I had already graduated. Then when those schoolkids are adults, they don't expect privacy in anything since they've never had any privacy in the first place. The rights you've relinquished just by having a cellphone. Your conversations have no protection from eavesdropping (used to be called wiretapping and required a search warrant), and the GPS tracks your every movement. Freedom from those things used to be cherished civil rights, something that made America great, something that made America stand above the rest of the world.

I was able to use the site w/script debugging disabled .
IE as my browser, windows 7 .

    Works fine today .

Re: 24 Hour Random Spam Discussion Thread

This is what I was talking about, although the President's statement wasn't released until three hours ago :

NEW YORK (AP) -- The Obama administration is calling for stronger privacy protections for consumers as mobile gadgets, Internet services and other tools are able to do a better job of tracking what you do and where you go.

Administration officials outlined a proposed "Consumer Privacy Bill of Rights" on Thursday and urged technology companies, consumer groups and others to jointly craft new protections. Such guidelines would initially be voluntary for companies, but those that agree to abide by them could be subject to sanctions for any violations.

"As the Internet evolves, consumer trust is essential for the continued growth of the digital economy," President Barack Obama said in a statement. "That's why an online privacy Bill of Rights is so important. For businesses to succeed online, consumers must feel secure."

The effort comes as companies have found more sophisticated ways to collect and combine data on your interests and habits. Beginning next week, for instance, Google will start merging data it collects from email, video, social-networking and other services when you're signed in with a Google account.

The growing use of smartphones and tablet computers adds another dimension to the tracking. Location information can give service providers insights into where you spend your time and, if you have friends who use the same services, whom you tend to hang out with in person.

Data collection can help companies improve and personalize services. It can also help advertisers fine-tune messages and reach the people most likely to buy their products and services — often without consumers even realizing it.

That is why the administration is seeking more data protections for consumers in a report issued Thursday.
