I Brought My 2003 3.2 Cts With 46000 Miles On It. Not Even A Month Ago And All Of The Sudden My Rpm Doesnt Go Above 3000 Rpm And Wen U Drive The Car There's Big Banging Noise Coming From The Rear Of The Car And The Whole Car Shakes, Its Sounds Like The Shaft Or Something, Im About To Take My Car To The Dealer On Monday Please Advise Me So I Can Tell Them To Fix It Cause Its Stil Uner Warranty Til This Week

i dont know about the RPMs, but the banging noise might be your diff. this car is very well known for diff problems.

Are you saying the engine wont go over 3000 RPM when in neutral or when you drive? If it's in neutral than that's normal. About the banging noise, my money on the diff..

Some other forums literally kill people who break rules. Worse than that, the forums will fine people $5000 for signing up again under diff name.

Maybe we should take some hints from the middle ages. Draw and quarter anyone who leaves cap lock on. Why--I don't know. I would be that if we took those people and drew and quartered them, they would no longer leave cap locks on--unless they did that just as they died. I guess we would need a severe penalty for that infraction too.

You should not take an engine up that high if it is not in gear and moving the car.

i thnk dat engine went to da low power mode or something not sure do u how to get rid of it tho???? cuz i heard CTS goes into low powered modes sumtimes ??????? any help wud b helpfull????????

It would help if the posts are typed on a computer keyboard and not texted from a cell phone. I'm having a difficult time even reading what the problem is.

As far as banging noises and shakes, you'll need to jack up the car and take a look. I had a bolt back out of the drive shaft that caused these symptoms. A little Blue Locktite and a torque wrench solved the problem. If you have a failed differential, be prepared to pay if your not still in warranty, as these are not uncommon on the CTS and can run upwards of $1500.

If your car won't rev above 3000 RPM in drive, then you need to either get an OBD2 scan tool and read the codes, or take it to a dealer. You're not likely going to be able to diagnose it on your own, since the entire car is computer controlled.

Now, in complete sentences, tell us what the problem is. Are you trying to rev the engine above 3k in neutral? If so, why?

The car is smart enough to prevent you from doing serious engine damage by overreving the engine when it is not under a load, but don't press your luck.

The noise - maybe a differential, maybe you ran over something/someone & are dragging it/him/her down the street?
