Does any one know the best product for getting rid of scratches. i have a black 04 CTS and the highway kills my paint job with little rocks. Any advice? Or a good wax would be nice.

Re: Best product for scratches

Mine's black too & I put on a lot of highway miles, the paint on my front end/hood looks horrible, may end up getting it repainted.

I just used zaino products on my car for the 1st time last weekend, results were pretty impressive. There are other multi-step product lines out there that I'm sure are really good as well.

I used the clay bar 1st, then used a porter-cable buffer with an orange cutting pad and used zaino z-pc swirl remover. It did a nice job of removing swirl marks and some of the minor scratches. Of course, it wouldn't do anything on the deep scratches or stone chips, not aware of any product that will take care of those. Followed up with the z5 wax, resulted in really slippery paint and a mirror finish. I have the z2 wax for the final step, but ran out of time to apply it last weekend. I'm going to apply it this fri. before I leave for the midwest meet in des moines.

I used to manage a detail shop and have had many black cars. You can use any real glaze like 3m or meguire's. Glaze is what eliminates the fine fine scratches you often see on a black or dark colored car. Then you must wax it after so that your paint has a layer of protection.

Thumbs up Re: Best product for scratches

Go ahead and by the $85 package that includes the z5. Zaino is amazing at removing the scratches. My wife thought she was helping by sending my car through a car wash, swirls everywhere. It was a felt car wash so I couldn't blame her. Well I tried a few other products and Zaino was the only one to make a difference. Once you Zaino the hand wash, I went and got a couple of soft mitts. The clear coat is really sensitive so its best be careful when washing.

Re: Best product for scratches

I've found that Nu Finish Scratch Doctor works pretty good. But almost any food quality polish and time with a buffer will help. Hit it with a glaze, Maguires products are a good choice, and wax. Stay away from anything with silicone in it. If you ever decide to repaint silicone waxes or any residue will reak havoc on the paint job.

BTW touch up paint will help with small deep scratches I recommend reading books ant articles on refinishing paint, it'll be helpful. I know what you're dealing with, I have a Blackalac and it's a bitch to keep it looking nice. But when it's clean WOW!

Re: Best product for scratches

On some colors a crayon can do a temporary fix. You polish it into the scratch.

Cue RT to laugh again!!
