To rims or not to rims?

Remove this ad
That is the question.

I was at Lindsay Cadillac today getting an oil change and a tire balancing. They told me there was no point in rotating/balancing the tires because there was uneven wear and that I basically just need new tires.

Well, I have always wanted new rims (since I only have the stock 16's) so I am thinking that I should just go for it now. I like the STS and DTS rims but past threads make it seem like a task to get them fitted correctly on a CTS (if this is not the case, let me know). I am not looking to spend a fortune here because well, I don't have a fortune. I found these on ebay and I really like them:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...8043963&rd=1,1

The only thing I am not sure about is the fact that they are chrome. I like chrome but with all the salt and crap on the roads, I didn't really want to go in that direction. I've also heard it is a bad idea to go with cheap chrome.

Let me know what you guys think (and if you think they will fit). Also tire suggestions would be very welcome...

*edit* Please don't steal my rims I found on ebay....

Re: To rims or not to rims?

Don't they put salt on the roads down here like maybe twice a year? I moved from Buffalo 3 years ago and it never gets old to me to see people freak out when we get 1/4 inch of snow and get off of work.

I take mine off during the winter, mainly because they just get dirtier and I don't want to be out cleaning them but not from salt. I'm looking to get some cheap used tires to put on my stock 17's for next winter.

Re: To rims or not to rims?

I destroyed a set of chromies in one year in the Ohio rust belt! I'd go polished next time or painted.

They don't salt the roads in arlington or even plow them really. I work in crystal city and they don't touch the roads there. They salt the roads a lot more in Maryland

Re: To rims or not to rims?

they look great, I like that simple 5 spoke chrome design. i'm planning to upgrade my wheels this summer and I would buy something like that, but i'm going to save my old ones for winter, they use a lot of salt in wi!!

Re: To rims or not to rims?

I had the same thing happening with my 16s. Uneven tire wear. The alignment was off from the factory.

Those 18s you posted look great. Save your 16 wheels for winter tires.

Re: To rims or not to rims?

I really like those. What search did you use on ebay?

will the offset work at 38?

Here's the rims; non-ebay:

http://superbuytires.com/Verde/5ive/

if you look up the Verde 5ive you'll actually find better deals (when you add bid + shipping) elsewhere than ebay. Just an fyi.

Re: To rims or not to rims?

i have the sts/dts 9 spoke polished 18 inch wheels on my cts. got them on ebay about a month ago. came with 255/40 in the rear and 235/40 in front. bolted right up. tight fit in front but do not rub, and fit perfect out back. i was worried when i did, it because people said it would not work.........but it did and the car looks 100 times better. looks like a little sts.

Re: To rims or not to rims?

cool, i've been contemplating rims for close to a year and can't decide what I want. It's especially hard when you can't see them on your car and I don't havea ny photoshop skills.

I actually think its going to end up being cheaper using ebay for the rims and tire rack for tires. A couple hundred cheaper...

Also if you do a search on the forum for STS rims (in the CTS forum) you can find pics of CTS's with STS rims.
