My rims chronicles

Remove this ad
I just spoke to the workshop. My new tires that they ordered that supposedly should fix my vibration problem of my 20" Irmscher rims are still not there. I been waiting for a solution for a problem that they know of since June last year!

4 times they rebalanced the rims. No effect.
They should've sent the rims back to Irmscher to get them investigate them while I ride my winter tires.

But...... they never sent the rims to Irmscher. Nope, I had to call my dealer in February to ask them about the progress. The dealer contact was not there so I had to wait for him to return from holidays. When he got back he said I should contact my workshop contact. Guess what... he was on holidays!

So I wait again and ask him about the rims. He said he would send the rims to Irmscher so I wait again. In March, when the weather was ready for summer tires, he comes back to me that they decided to put new tires on it, because the Pirellis are too soft and could've caused the problem. Sooooo... he said he would order new tires.

We have end of April now and the tires are not there. The rims have not been investigated, so I am not sure if it will solve the problem. This week it took me 4 calls to get SOME solution. Even temporarily. Today they called me up and said the tires will be there end of next week. So for this week I insisted on a temporarily solution. I can't continue driving on my winter tires, even if I am only home for the weekends to drive my car. They wear like crazy with these temperatures and what if I lose control? The insurance could blame it on wrong tires.

So.... tomorrow I get my old tires back. How sad is that?

Anyway, I will insist on that they will install my Eibach springs and sways with no charge!

Re: My rims chronicles

They are dead sexy... The only ones I like more than the Irmscher's are Vogue CV-7s. I just wish they came in 18's and they sold them on this side of the pond.

Re: My rims chronicles

Actually, it is not a Brand, but a Tuner in Germany. They manly do factory tuning for Opel, but they also have some packages for other GM brands in Europe.
The rims must have been made exclusively for Irmscher, because I haven't seen them anywhere else. They must have their suppliers and manufacturers for that.

Re: My rims chronicles

I never seen BMW rims like that.
Never seen Mazda rims like that either. Mazda stock rims always have round and bubbly spokes.

Ah well...

Re: My rims chronicles

Ok, I called the workshop today. The person in charge is on holiday again, so I get to speak to his replacement. The tires are in, so I need to drop my car off on Monday when I fly back to Toulouse again.

Lets see if the new tires will bring any improvement. When not I'll get new rims.

Re: My rims chronicles

I finally got new tires last week. I got Dunlop now and I really love the grip!

But... I still have the same problem: it still shakes. So... the workshop is now debating with the dealer on how to handle this. Am I going to get new rims?

I hope I can change back to the 18" Cadillac sports rims of which the dealer said it is not possible to install them without the tire pressure monitoring system... I am inquiring at the Main office of Cadillac Europe Import in Amsterdam. Hope they can help me and kick that dealer in the ass.

It's been almost 1 year now!!!!

Re: My rims chronicles

According to Amsterdam Cadillac does not want to deliver the 18" without the tire pressure monitoring system, because... behold... "the space between the tire and the chassis is so small, it would cause damage to the car when you have a flat!"

I told the technician if he ever checked the clearance of the wheels, he would know you have a fist wide clearance. Well, with the strickt European regulations I think it is going to be close to impossible to get these rims installed...

Re: My rims chronicles

new update:

Last week when I was in Toulouse they replaced my front brakes (incl. calipers and disks) and wheel bearings as the rims came back flawless from Irmscher. And the original 17" rims with summer tires cause the same vibration.

Result:
- none - I still have the same vibration in my steering wheel around 60-70 Mph.

Meanwhile it got me:
new steering rods (or the spacers?)
new tires
new brakes
new wheel bearings
free installation of my Eibach set (springs, Anti-roll kit and FE4's which I delivered). Just not installed yet.

what's next? Anybody got an idea what else could cause the vibration?
