    Re: CTS Acronym

When the CTS was first named, I can guarantee that it stood for Catera Touring Sedan. I even remember the first highlight sheet saying "The new CTS - the Cadillac Catera Touring sedan" or something like that. You have the DHS (Deville High-luxury Sedan), the DTS (Deville Touring Sedan), the STS (Seville Touring Sedan), SLS (Seville Luxury Sedan), and the EXT (Escalade Xover Truck)...

However, Cadillac has now abandoned the Acronyms (and will never admit the Catera tie-in) - ESV has no meaning, XLR is claimed to mean nothing (though one could guess {something} Luxury Roadster), the SRX means nothing, the new STS and DTS will not "mean" anything, etc...

Several higher-ups had hinted that the X used in the EXT and XLR meant convertible, which would make sense to the vehicles (XLR = convertible top, EXT = convertible truck bed), but the "X" meaning convertible makes no sense...

Yes, the CTS started as a Catera Touring Sedan. Cadillac didn't want any of their new models to be associated with the older vehicles though, so it adopted the naming scheme of it's competitors and everything became code.

The 'X' being used to designate convertible kind of makes sense in that 'X' is often used to mean a variable. Still doesn't explain the SRX, unless they figured that the huge sunroof was as close to convertible as an SUV(sorry, I meant PUV ) would ever get.

When you install your new grille, look at the back of your stock CTS grille and you'll read where the supplier stamped "Catera".

    Re: CTS Acronym

I'd like to know why they want no affiliation with older models? When people think Cadillac they think DeVille, Seville, Eldorado, Fleetwood, Brougham, not DSEFBTS!!! It's just dumb in my opinion. With over 100 years of heratage they just leave it all behind.

Because Cadillac has destroyed those once legendary names in the last 20 years. They're trying to rebuild and transform into a performance luxury company(which, if you look back to the very beginning, is what they originally were).

Exactly. And it's not that they are trying to eliminate visions of all past autos, but mainly the one we are speaking of here is the Catera. Cadillac simply did not want to continue the catera name plate - that's another reason why they immediately replaced the 3.2l OPAL engine as well.

    Re: CTS Acronym

Prob not a popularly held opinion but I like the letter designation of the new models. I feel it is a great way to change the image and update the model lines.

Yes, the Seville, Deville etc were great cars, but not particularly sporty. It would seem from my laymans observations Cadillac is trying to move into a more sporty, sleek, lux image. Unfortuantely they felt it was necessary to drop the old designations. I agree with them but what do I know. I'm no marketing expert, just a happy CTS owner!
