How often should I clean Volant?

Does anybody know how often I should use the recharge kit on my Volant? I'm kinda thinking that I need to do it pretty soon.

Re: How often should I clean Volant?

I blow mine out at oil changes... I think it needs re-oiled every 25 or 50k... can't remember though. Check the afe website and report back. I'd do it, but I'm just as lazy as you are and don't want to type www.afefilters.com into the address bar at the top. Report back on what you find out.

Re: How often should I clean Volant?

Every six months or so, I open the lid to the airbox and look. If I still see color from the oil, it's good. If it's coated with dirt, it's time to clean. I have a spare filter that I clean and simply swap them when it's time. Otherwise you need to let the filter dry out overnight before you oil it, making it a time consuming affair. Don't overoil the filters! After you spray a light coat to give it color, let it sit for a while and the oil wicks to the parts you can't get to very well.

Re: How often should I clean Volant?

K&N and Volant both use the same filter material. K&N cleaning kits are the easiest to find. I got mine at AutoZone. I also had WildWheel make me a transparent Volant cover. It looks cool and I can inspect my filter without removing the lid. When cleaning the filter its nice to have a utility sink to rinse the filter. Rinsing with a garden hose could kill you grass.

K&N says not to use high pressure air or water as it can damage the filter. How often depends on your enviroment..like dusty back roads, sand etc. I do mine about every 20,000 miles.

Re: How often should I clean Volant?

These ReCharge Kits are about $12. There 's enough there to clean your filter 2-3 times. Here's a link.
