From inside the trunk. You have to remove some carpet to get at the brake light bulb. I need to replace one too. Maybe when it gets a bit warmer.

Re: brake light

The bulb will only be a few dollars, you can get them anywhere (part store, Wal-Mart, ect) & it's very easy to change. You just have to unscrew the big black "nuts" that hold the carpet in place & then you can get to the back of the light to change the bulb. Just turn the "plug" (for lack of better word) to the left & then pull it out of the housing. Pop out the old bulb (I can't remember if these pull right out or if you have to push in and turn to the left), put in the new bulb, reverse steps & there ya go. Seriously will only take about 3 minutes.

Re: brake light

Yeah, it's easy. Thank god it's not as complicated as the headlights. Sure once you do the headlights it's not that bad, but it's a pain and feels unnecessary.

If you want the real deal, it's not cheap. Involves ballasts, etc. Not a bulb change. Total different housing.

Ebay usually has them for $150 ea. Also a lot of labor involved. Also the hid's also have a washer feature. Migh be more work to accomodate this as well.

Just go for the bright halogens that are compatable to stock bulbs.

PS: Changing these bulbs are a pain in the ass. Poor engineering

I think your friend was just going to use the bright stock bulbs as sold in most speed shops for about $40 a pair. Ebay has them cheaper.

A little advice: Your DMV might fail you on inpection with them. They only allow them if they are oem. Believe me they know!

Check this link on Reed's FAQ's - a great resource.

Sorry kid - one more thing.

The link I gave you was for doing the real deal HID's.

Seeing you're from jersey, they will definately fail you.

On my past Eldorado, I put my old one's back on before going to inspection.
You "might" get away with it if they don't have that bright blue tint.

Changing the bulb itself is still a hopp! You must access the area from behind the wheel wells. Used to be: Open the hood, remove a cover, & do'em.

I already had to do it twice, remove the carpet and you'll see 2 nuts holding the light. Once you remove the nuts the whole light will pop out, the rest is easy.

Re: brake light

This is not a three minute job. It takes three minutes to get to
the nuts holding the tail light on. From start to finish it will take
fifteen to twenty minutes. I used Sylvania 3157LL lamps. These say
long life. I hope they last longer than the CTS brake lights. My right
side brake light went out with only 7,100 miles on the car.
