Thumbs down Bad tie rods???? only 38K

Remove this ad
Hello all,

I am new here but would like to pick you caddy guru brains. I have an 03 CTS that I love! I have had no problems with it until now. Last night I began to hear a thud in the front end when I turned. Tonight I went to pull out of the garage and my passenger tie rod snapped and wedged itself between the rotor and the rim. I got the car back in the garage and then checked the driver side, it's bad too. WTF? The car has 38K on it and I have babied it the whole time. The roads around me are in good shape, I can't belive these are both bad.

Has any one else seen tie rods go bad this quick on a CTS? The really bad part is my warranty ran out 10 days ago...bummer.... What should I do??

Thanks,

The Dude

Re: Bad tie rods???? only 38K

Sounds like a BS story to me. Tie rods don't snap. The tie rod ball joints pull apart when worn out. It's hard to believe that kind of wear could get past any kind of half-assed inspection.

that's what i was thinking... i never seen or heard of a 03 CTS with 38K miles on it... i thought that Cadillac's warranty lasted up to 50K miles and then the extended warranty up to 100K miles.

With an 03 he might be beyond the 48 months. As far as what to do; he's going to have to pay to have it fixed unless he can fix it himself. If he was able to do that he wouldn't be asking for advice here.

Re: Bad tie rods???? only 38K

I had a bent tie rod on mine when I got it (34k miles) but it was more than likely from when the previous owner hit a pot hole or curb because there was also a dent in the rim. For them to just "go bad" at 38k miles is rather odd!

Re: Bad tie rods???? only 38K

Never ever had a tie rod go bad. My CTS is an '04 with 35,000 miles with no problem. GM has a "Good Faith" policy that dealers can some time apply. It's up to the dealer. Here's a Cadillac e-mail address and phone number:
E-mail Address(es):

Good luck.

Re: Bad tie rods???? only 38K

Ok for you the guy who said this is BS here are some pics for you to reveiw. The car has 38,000 miles on it but the waranty ran out after 48 months, only a few days ago. I am as amazed at this as any of you. The only reason I posted this was too see if any one else had an issue like this, to go at the dealer with. Any idiot can change a tie rod!

Re: Bad tie rods???? only 38K

The tie rod didn't snap, the ball joint was destroyed. The last time i saw anything like that the guy was drunk and tried to straddle the traffic divider. Look and see if the inside of the wheels are dinged up or bent.
