Not bedding the pads is not likely to be the reason they are squeeking, that is more of a sign of a fitment problem. Although I would not expect that from Hawk, but cheaper pads that leave to much space between the pad and the caliper tend to squeel like a pig. It is possible your pads are glazing over, but that tends to sound and feel more rough than a squeek |

It doesn't start squeeking until I have almost come to a complete stop. Like the last 5-10 feet before stopping they start to squeek. I am going follow what the site says about bedding. If that doesn't fix it I will bring my car back to the brake shop and tell them to fix the problem. |

haha...
just kidding, i don't even want to START that again.
bed the pads, give it another week and definitely take it in. noisy brakes are annoying and super embarrassing on such a quality car... |

True, squealing brakes can be caused form things other than not bedding new pads properly, but it is actually very common to get a lot of squeal from the brakes if you don't bed them & they glaze over.
Another reason to bed the pads is to match the pad surface with the rotor, which allows for better brake performance & life. Quote:

Most any parts store sells dampeners for pads. They're just a little fiber spacer that fit in behind the pad that keeps pressure on them so they remain tight in the caliper & can't vibrate around & cause squeaking. There's also some adhesive you can buy, again at mostly any parts store, that you apply to the back of the pad that basicly "glues" the pad in place to prevent shifting & squealing. They sell it in a spray or a gell. Auto Zone & Advance usually have little condom sized packets of the gell kind near the check out. |

"Bedding allows your brakes to reach their full potential. Until they are bedded, your brakes simply do not work as well as they can. If you've installed a big brake kit, changed your pads and rotors, or even if you've purchased a brand new car, you should set aside some time to bed the brakes in by following the instructions below. Proper bedding will improve pedal feel, reduce or eliminate brake squeal, and extend the life of your pads and rotors." |

Ok, I'm bringing back a dead thread because I don't want to start a new one. Any who, I installed the Hawk Performance Ceramic pads about a year ago and have had constant squeaking every fricken day since. I've bedded them properly by following the directions to the T and they stop squeaking for maybe a week after I bed them, then they start squeaking up again. No, I didn't have new rotors installed and I didn't cut my old ones before I installed the pads, but aren't you guys saying that that's fine as long as I bed them properly? I don't want to have to re-bed them every week for the rest of my car's life.
It IS embarrassing driving even the nicest car with squeaky brakes. Makes me look like I just don't care about the car.
Any ideas anyone? |

I had these installed last friday at the dealer when my car was in for warranty work. I dont know what level Hawk pads they were, but they were 90ish shipped from Lindsey. Other than the standard fluffy pedal in the first 20 miles, i have put 250 miles on them since and they have not made ANY noise whatso ever, they are dead silent. I'm ordering the same pads for the rears, and im having the same dealer install them. Even though i have always done the breaks on all of my cars, I figure for 85 bucks its worth not getting dirty. I did notice wheni opened the box before i took it to the dealer, the breaks were huge. much larger than any brakes ive changed before. |

Any ideas anyone? | i have the same problem with the factory pads and rotors. i took my car into the dealership, and my friend there told me not to replace them, he bed the pads in again and resurfaced the rotors, and like you said, it lasts about a week. so once in a while, i take my car to the highway and do some hard braking. I'm considering sport or even V brakes because the caliper design is different. i hope that would improve it. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
