Check out the resale valued of used Buicks vs. used Lexus/Toyota's.
You can't give away used Buick Century's, Regal GS's, or LeSabre's.
They are pulling low, low dollars at dealer auctions.
Like it or not, mid size Lexus/Toyota products pull strong auction numbers, even with high miles.
I've bought 3 used STS's simply because they are the best used value on the market. There's no way I would buy a new Lucerne, knowing there is very little resale value to a 4 year old Buick with 80k on it. I would speculate that the Avalon retains a higher resale value, based upon Toyota and Lexus historical values.
Styling is subjective, but in person, the Avalon interior reminded me of my STS ... quality materials. The Buick just didn't do it for me, and I don't think it will age gracefully.
If I am buyign a full sived american luxo liner, i wnat a V8 whether it has more or less HP than soemoen elses V6. My 1987 Fleetwood Brougham had a 307ci V8 and 170 HP...and you know what? there are V6s with mroe hp than that but id still opt for the V8.

Re: Battle of the Barges: Avalon vs. Lucerne
As long as toyota does not let their problems hang around, their fans will quickly forget all about these recalls. GM had this love until years of crap cars and lots of recalls killed their rep. This is why even as the quality of GMs cars tops all except toyota, their resale value falls well below their competition.
I think resale value is all about how much people will pay for the preceved value of a car. If a manufacture has a reputation for quality it will filter down to their cars wether they have it or not. this is why American cars like the cts-v, impala, and avalon have such low resale compared to their competition.
Hello People... first time poster here... My name is Roland and I sure could use alittle imput from you people.. I currently drive a 96 DeVille, but within the next couple of days I'm going to trade it in for a new Avalon or Lucerne. My dilema is I'm not sure which way to go.. Love the looks of the Buick, but if I go that route, it will have to come with a Northstar.. The exterior of the Avalon is nice but where it really gets my attention is with the interior. I also am a fan of Toyota's V-6 that cranks out 268 hp. When you consider the weight difference in both vehicles, that makes both cars pretty much even up in the power plant. To make my decision harder, gm has now come out with a better warranty for the 07's... but it's pretty much a given that Toyotas are well built and have fewer mechanical problems... so you see, pro's for each car and very few negatives.... probably one of the biggest factors in my decision will be comfort. I'm a big fella...toooo big.. I wish that meant really tall, but it dosn't. So if I sit in the avalon and I feel restricted from side to side, then I'll more than likely go with the Buick, otherwise I will continue to struggle with a decision. I would love to hear your opinions and thoughts. I'll take this time to thank you in advance... come on now, help a fellow caddy owner out!!!! Thanks again.
