Exclamation Where is the multifunction module on 99 Cat

Remove this ad
So one evening taking the car to the airport. As we were backing out smelled something, like burning wires, electrical. Stopped at the end of the alley and opened the hood. Some smoke came out but was dark, couldn't see anything so parked the car and took my truck.
Next day could not see anything wrong under the hood but noticed that the radio was out and the automatic door locks, when put in gear, do not work. The lights on the radio work and the radio comes on when the key is turned off after the engine runs. That appears to be the only symptoms.
From this forum I assumed multifunction module (relay K134 I think). In the book it shows as being under panel on LH of I/P, essentially behind the headlight switch. Pulled the panel and it isn't there. Looked all under the drivers side of the I/P.
So asking for help.
1) Suggestions on what might be the problem.
2) Where's the multifunction switch.
For reference, VIN #W06VR52R9XR012482

UPDATE: Found the aux heater pump is fried. Connector shows signs of high heat so must have shorted. Can I just disconnect this and still drive the car? Also, doesn't appear to help the radio.
ANy help appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Where is the multifunction module on 99 Cat

Guess I stumped the experts. Just to clarify:
The location according to the manual is shown below, as well as the location on my car.

The radio, auto door locks, vanity mirror light, and map lights do not work when the engine is running. I believe this is due to the multifunction relay but cannot find the darn thing.
Again, any help appreciated.

On the '97 it was mounted to a plastic bracket directly on the underside of the steering column. Had to put my head under the dash to see it. It is about 2.5" x 4" by 1" thick with a connector plugged into one end, encased in gray plastic.

Re: Where is the multifunction module on 99 Cat

You have to remove the black underside panel above your brake and throttle pedals. There some large grommet screws that need a half turn to pop out. You'll see a gray box the size of a pack of cigarettes. I don't think that's your problem though. Usually the trunk, fuel doors and radio will be out completely if this goes bad, but I could be wrong.
Do a search there is something else connected to your heater pump going out, they share the same fuse. i know if your heater pump goes bad it will blow the fuse from drawing to many amps.

thanks jafo, but my trunk and fuel door still work so your saying it could be something else ? is there a way of telling if the relay is bad?

Re: Where is the multifunction module on 99 Cat

My interior lights and vanity mirror lights were doing crazy stuff when the Multifunction module was out. everything else was working fine. I replaced it and everything's OK now. Oh yeah, that picture in the manual is the worst illustration of the module's location. You have to get under sthe panel, not on the side of it. It is slid on a metal bracket under there. Good luck
