Catera Sport & Lowering Springs

Remove this ad
Has anyone used lowering springs on a 2000 or 2001 Catera Sport? When I shop for springs they just list the Catera, not the Sport. Here are my questions.
  1. Are the lowering springs from Steinmetz, Eibach, Intrax, etc. as stiff as the sport springs? I like the ride and handling just as it is, I only want to lower the car.
  2. Does lowering add more negative camber?
  3. Does lowering exaggerate the tire wear problem?
  4. Do the alignment bolt kits I see online help reduce that wear?
  5. Are bump stops necessary to compensate for the loss of shock travel?

Re: Catera Sport & Lowering Springs

Thanks. It's exactly what I was looking for. He did a great job. It looks great. Since he doesn't recommend it as a DIY project, and because my mechanical skills suck, I'm going to try contacting him for details. Anything I can pass along to my non-Cadillac mechanic.

I just bought a pair of 2004 GTO front brake calipers that will go on once it warms up a bit so I can paint them. Red of course. They're dual piston calipers and, along with steel braided hoses, will really give the Cat serious stopping power. Combined with new springs, front/rear alignment kits, and struts I'll have the Catera I want. If I can find new control arms I'll buy them too. Then I'll have a brand new Catera from the beltline down. If I can't have more power I want knife sharp handling. The bodykit will come later. I prefer function over form.

Once I get all the pieces together I'll drop them in my mechanic's lap. Along with a stack of copies of any info I can find on these forums. You guys are the best.
