The kit is a big waste of time.

I had a kit when I changed my belt and ended up not using it. All of the marks are already on the rear cover, belt and pulleys. The cam locks did not work because the belt had stretched slightly anyways.

Again the kit is totally useless.

Just make sure you get a Torx socket large enough for the crank to turn the engine over. Or use a large 12-point socket.

Re: J 42069 Timing Belt Alignment Kit

I agree with Warez statement above. I did mine without the kit. Just make sure you position the crankshaft timing mark on vertical at TDC (line it up with mark on front bottom of engine) and then make sure the marks on the cam gears line up with the belt and rear cover. Once the crank is turned completely twice (720 degrees) the belt marks will no longer line up, but make sure the ones on the cam gears line up with the ones on the cover. Rotate the crank twice again and verify they are exactly in line. The service manual explains it clearly, as well as what to adjust if they don't line up.

No need to spend the $$$ on the kit.
