I would like to see if you are still renting the tool for the timing belt. I have a saturn vue that I am doing a water pump on, so whilst I am in there, I want to pull the belt as well. I am up in the Chicagoland area.
I am not looking to do it for another few weeks or so...
(I tried to send a PM, but I am a newbie on this form and have not posted the required 10 posts)..
Thanks to you and this great forum.. I am also a big Caddy fan Quote:

It also now includes the special needed wrench. Just e mail me at Mail@AutoTechUnlimited.com and we can set it up with PayPal or a credit card. There will be a deposit of course that will be fully refunded with the return of the tool.

You get in and find you need to order parts or tensioners etc.
Our kits are a 30 day rental. If it takes 35 days no big deal. Our kits have the required tensioner wrench. http://www.ledfix.com/timingbelttoolrental.html
This kit is required to change the timing belt on Saabs, Saturn L and VUE series, Cadillac Catera, Cadillac CTS vehicles.
We have both Baum bom4145 and Kent Moore j-42069 kits available. No waiting on ours, I think we have about 30 kits available.
See picture. The orange ones are Baum, the blue are Kent Moore. The rental is the same on either kit. But the deposit is more on the Kent Moore kit.

| I understand that happens sometimes and in that case I let it stay out longer as long as you let me know. It is still only $50.00 |

It's nice to have the kit for around for awhile. Do multiple cars if needed. Drive the car for a week to make sure the timing belt install went ok.
Just my view...
The idea is, here's the tool, take your time, do it right, verify the repair, ship the tool back for credit.

| And how is that? We are $50.00 for as long as you need it and you are $149.00. Yes we charge the shipping, but that is only $9.95 each way in the lower 48 states. So our total is $69.90. I'm not trying to bicker over things, but facts are facts.Let the customer decide. |

Something fishy here. Only 9 posts....$50 does not even cover the cost of the wrench much less the wear and tear on the tooling.

I only charge 1/7 th the price of the tool, not 1/2 the price of the tool. Our company has been in business since 1994 and we aren't going anywhere. http://www.autotechunlimited.com
Nothing "fishy" here, just giving the customer an honest value. |

| | Cadillac Owners Enthusiast | | Join Date: Feb 2003 Location: Nashville | | | Re: J 42069 Timing Belt Alignment Kit It is not a 1/2 price rental. You have to look at the reality of the numbers. The current Baum best price is $330. You may see other Baum kits advertised for less, but they are sold out or N/A (not available).
30 day rental.
Plus we have the OEM Kent Moore J-42069 tool kits available on request. Totally different ball game there. $500 tool there.
The required wrench is a additional $58. So close to $390-$400 per Baum kit.
Then, we do pay the shipping, you do not.
The kits also require maintence. Wait till a kit comes back with worn or damaged parts. Replacement Baum cam locks are $60 each plus shipping. Are you going to charge a customer for a worn out lock?
You really need the tool for 30 days, no tensioner or water pump surprises. Time is money. Verify the repair has been done correctly.
Get ready, someday, someone is not going to return that rental kit.

| I've rented the tool 7 times and it still looks like new. Of course I would not charge a customer for a worn part. And do you really think someone would not return the tool when I have a refundable $300.00 deposit??
Thanks for keeping this thread near the top of the list. It has really helped the inquires! |

That's just the nature of the rental business. Some kits simply never come back. Your always hunting for more kits.
It may look like new now. But we check the gear locks with every rental. They are what wear out.
There was another post somewhere about getting the dealer to loan the tool. In that case the dealer did loan the tool. But then someone tried to start the car with the tools in place, destroying the tool.
You can have all the inquires you want, you cannot support any of them with 1 tool.

This one is from a recent customer:
"I have finished with the GM V-6 cam positioning tool and am ready to return it. I packed it in a USPS Priority Mail box just like it arrived in and zip-tied the 30mm wrench to the box handle as received. Any special instructions or RMS number or anything required or should I just drop it back in the mail?
The tool certainly made the job easier (actually made it possible!) and I appreciate your tip about following the Cadillac Catera instructions rather than those for the Saturn VUE. As nice as it is to have access to GM's online service information, I have found a few minor mistakes over the years."
