Per my earlier post of "Strange Noise Coming from '99 Cat", Marks DTM Calib mention checking the cubby hole in the trunk and/or the climate control air sampling fan being the culprit.
Yesterday evening, I had to make a run out of town and took the '99 Cat on the highway after removing and unknown plastic cover from the cubby hole. Cranked it up to 90 mph, and there was no noise!!!!
However, on my way back, I was cruising at about 70 mph when this 5 series Bimmer shot by. So, I said, what the heck and jump in behind him. We had it going for a while between 85 - 100 mph.............the noise returned!! Even when I backed down to 70 mph letting the Bimmer go on about its business, the noise was not as bad, but intermittent.
Marks DTM Calib made mention of the climate control air sampling fan. Where is it located, and how difficult would it be for me to replace it myself instead of going to the stealership (BKA Economic Rape Master)?
All of the doors are flushed when closed. I did have the front driver side door replaced about two months ago. Ill-regardless of that, the noise had been occurring prior to the door replacement.
How difficult is removing the climate control panel? Do I need any special tools, or is there a guide that walks you through the process?
