I too...have a catera sitting...not running.....in my front yard....it's a 98.....been through 2 fuel pumps the last 2 weeks, now waiting on a relay to be shipped in from the states...once i can figure out where this damn hose hooks back up to....it's outta here!! Gonna go with a Jimmy I think this time. Can't seem to get manuals here or anything...all I wanna do is get it running and gone. There is only one person in this city, as I have been told by the dealership... Any other cadillac they tell me....I can get fixed....this particular one....they say good luck. Warned me if the engine goes (which is starting) will be an 18,000.00 dollar bill

Exclamation Re: Throwing in the towel on my 97

I read about this car, what a flop! Dont forget, this car isnt even made in the USA! Its made over sea's some where.

When I heard the car was a flop, I thought no one bought it thats why they got rid of it. But now, I just read it has all of these problems. No one should ever by the first year of any car, look at the Ford Focus, Ford Windstar, Ford Contour, when they came out they had nothing but problems.

Why the freak do manufacturers push their cars out so quick? Ever heard of testing the cars before selling them in mass production?

I can't get Cadillac to pay for anything or cut any slack. I also made the mistake of buying an extended warranty from the market when my origional was over. Boy did I get ripped. I've been to numerous garages and it always comes down to the same finding-- sorry, you to take it to cadillac. I'm thinking of filing something with the Lemon Law. I only have 85,000 miles on it. Anyone else been there?

Hey, those are Fords. As in, Found On Road Dead or Fix Or Repair Daily. Don't get those pieces of crap confused with GM and its subsidiaries(sp?) (i.e. Cadillac).

Re: Throwing in the towel on my 97

OK , heres the truth... Opel/Vauxhall hasnt had a great reputation in certain times. (in the UK-Europe). There.. i said it.

Main contributors:

Shotty GM Parts/Engines

Cost reduction

Design flaws.

Good thing is, everythings been improved since the 90's. But there is no more Catera, and the 97-98's (and even earlier omega models) still have their problems because there were so many made and because the type of luxury offered for the price sounds like a good deal, people flock. 45 thousand + were produced those two years. Anyone who owns one of these will have unfortunately have something bad happen atleast once. It wasnt just the Catera though, other models of Opel/Vauxhall had their problems too. Small nagging problems plagued practically the whole line. BUT since then, as I said before... things have improved. Id say its almost like what the other German auto manufacturers are going through right now.. quality problems. And yes, Opels share some BMW parts.

-Note how after these years the 99-01 models were redesigned and most problems have disappeared.
